Okay. My truck turns over fine..but won't fire up. I have the Bosch relay wired in as shown in dntsdad's thread. I have spark at the plugs. It acts as if it is still not getting fuel.

I have a big B/Y wire from the 3.0 that I have marked "cold start injector to COR" (IH1 pin 15). In the 3.0 wiring schematic it is plugged into a wire (B/R) coming from the fuel pump COR, then runs to position STA on the ECU.

At this point that wire is not connected to anything because I could not find a "Cold Start Injector" mentioned on the 97 wiring harness diagram. Does this wire need to be connected for my junk to run?

Any ideas are appreciated.

 

turn the key to on and verify that the fuel pump kicks on. You may need a helper to hear it. Since it is in the tank, have a friend (girlfriend comes in handy here) turn on the key while your ear is against the tank. You should hear it buzz.

Honestly, I dont recognize anything you stated so that may be my faulty memory.

There is a large blue wire (may or may not have a red stripe) in the COR loom. That is the wire to the fuel pump that needs to be on 87 of the Bosch relay. 86 and 30 go to ignition and 85 goes to the STA terminal.

By looking at this picture you can see the blue wire. I would also assume that the w/r wire in this same loom is ignition power, but I would verify to be sure.

I dont remember anything about a cold start wire or relay.

 

Okay, so I fixed the wire I had wrong. After recharging the battery overnight, I put it back in. I got the buzzer when I put the key in. All the lights worked etc. When I tried to start the truck, everything died. I got a click and then after that, I couldn't get anything to work. I checked the battery with a voltage tester and it showed 14 volts. Did I just fry all the interior wires? HELP!!!!

It was turning over fine yesterday.

 

Probably tripped a fuse or something. If you fried every interior wire you would know it by the MASSIVE amounts of smoke and the smell of crap on fire.

Check obvious stuff like battery connections. etc. grounds point that you have on the motor, frame, body

 

Well that's good news, cuz the truck didn't burn down and no smoke either. I checked the underhood fuses and they all looked good. I will check the ones in the kick panel tomorrow. Thanks.

 

I am going to put $5 on a loose battery cable, ground wire,etc.

 

Okay. I just took a couple minutes. I checked my battery terminal connectors, my grounds at the motor and the frame and all my fuses. All of the fuses were good, the grounds were tight and the terminal connectors were also tight. I am gonna put the battery back in tomorrow and try again. If it doesn't work, what would be the next logical place to check

IIRC there's no cold start injector on this engine

 

If it was me, I would have a charger on the battery and start checking everything with your meter. Make sure you have voltage when the key is actually turned and the battery isnt going to crap as its asked to apply voltage.

99% sure its gotta be a bad connection somewhere. Just start tracing it down the path.

I need to figure out how to extend my throttle cable.. or do I need the 3.4 cable?

What was it?

My 3.4 cable would never let it idle correctly. I ended swapping back to the 3.0 cable and it worked fine.

I have a spare 3.4 cable if you are looking for one.

 

Apparently, I ran the battery down to nothing and didn't realize it. I just had to charge it back up, then talked to my father in law about the COR. He is an electrician by trade. He put the circuit tester to it and realized I had no ground. On the schematic, there is a B/W wire that went to ground. Plugged it in and it ran liked a raped ape.

I am using the 3.0 throttle cable and it seems too short. It holds the throttle open to idle about 2800 rpm. I prolly just need to bend the bracket to allow for some slack.

Also, how did you make space between the throttle cable and the steering shaft?

 

Problem solved. I bent the mounting bracket for the throttle cable and then realized that the cable in the way of the steering shaft was the cruise control cable and I am not using my cruise control. Thanks.
