Build your own 3.4 crossover pipe
#101
Thought I would post my .02 here. I am getting ready to do a swap and was debating headers or manifolds - already have a SC, I like it quiet so had decided on manifolds. Started cutting up to mod the crossover and found this, they neck down the tubing and almost butt them together inside the flex coupler causing quite a restriction - Supercharged may notice it - . I cut mine apart and am going to butt weld the same size to each end. Just thought I would share.

If it makes you feel better, who am I, but I was running ~375hp through stock manifolds and even smaller exhaust preturbo (2"), so it will not have an effect whatsoever. But really idc, just throwing my .02 back at ya.

You posted this in the wrong sub, but yes, you can do it. You have to unbolt the trans crossmember and either lift the tailshaft up to the bottom of the body, or drop it down to the ground. It will come out- it is a lot work!

Hey guy how would you recommend doing the crossover pipe on the drivers side since I don't have the 3.4 downpipe that goes from the two to one collector? Would it be better to do it like the previous pictures on post #97 or is the two to one flange easy to come by? This is really my biggest hold up on getting the motor dropped in.
Thanks

Question About California Smog and the Crossover..
So, a quick intro, I am fairly new to this board but have spent the last few weeks reading posts preparing to do a 3.4 swap in a 92 4runner that we just bought from my son. We have a 98 donner vehicle with a fresh motor. I am trying to determine whether to custom make my crossover or buy one from ORS. So my question is this: have any of you (That live in Ca) done either and passed the ref inspection?
Thanks for any input

That said, I had TOS (Toy Only Swaps) modify my stock 97 crossover and it passed the ref's inspection.

I picked up a 2002 3.4 that has the double wall cross over so from what i'm reading means that I can't cut it up and rebuild it. I'm wondering has anyone ever looked at cutting up the cross over pipe, like in this example but using the 3.0 crossover as the donor. I was then thinking that the flanges from the 3.4 could be welded to the end of the tube to mate up to the exhaust manifold as well as the stock exhaust in the pickup. Thoughts? Thanks.

yup!
Anyway, this is still going in the 4runner, had to pull it out and weld it up again a couple years ago because he didn't have any hangers holding the exhaust, and it ripped the bottom of the pipe off. So make sure you have your exhaust supported.
Also, these pics are now hosted on this sight, so if they fail, it's yotatech's fault
, lol
