<<Newb to the site, Doing a 5vz swap, Does Tranny swap over?

Hi everyone, New to the site but I've been browsing around here for a while now. Anyhow, have a 91 4runner 4x4 3.0 5spd. Blew the motor, well it's knock knock knockin... lol Anyway, getting a 03 Taco 4x4 5spd 5vz. Wondering if the transmission would slide in to replace the oem trans/transfer case or do I need to use the old trans. I would love to install the new one since it only has around 66k on it and mine has 168k. Anyone done this before or know what mods are necessary for the swap. I know the motor is pretty straight forward to swap in. thanks in advance

Talking 91 Runner Getting The 01 Taco 5vz-FE COMPLETE SWAP

Hello all, I know I'm new the site so I thought I'd start off with saying that the threads on here are fantastic! Great write-ups all over the place is what I have seen. Anyway, I'm about to start tearing into my 4Runner since I blew the motor. It is a 91 4x4 3.0 5spd sr5. My intention is to transplant the 5vz powerplant along with the trans mission from a 01 Taco 4x4 5spd. Was wondering if anyone has any insight as to the transmission fitment, mounting? I was also curious if anyone has had any success converting the new transmission's transfer case to a passenger side output for the front driveshaft since the taco has it on the driver's side. Other than that, I think it looks pretty straight forward Oh yea, here are the pics of the doner truck I found. Should be getting it down here in the next week or so.
POOR TRUCK>>>> LOL.

OUCH!!!

Double ouch!!
And !!($@!

AND NOW THE BEAUTY!!!!

Should be a fun week... lol
33'' tires, 2"body, 5" suspension, E-locker off this truck, 4.88(or maybe the 4.56 out of this truck), manual hubs, Dual fuel tanks, some interior clean-up, stereo, and hopefully I havent blown the budget MR> SUPERCHARGER. Yay!

How sure are you of the integrity of that engine? It looks like it's shifted a long way over to the passenger side.

I'd just hate for you to get deep into a project and realize that your donor engine is toast.

- Thanks for the concern but believe it or not, it still starts right up and even drives. well, it's a tight squeeze but. lol. Motor sounds great.

Yep, wheels are coming with it. I may end up powdercoating them black and running these on my 4runner. Depends on backspacing and everything.

I'm from Orange Co. , CA

Curious what you paid for that? I could have bought an 01 in about that shape last week for $500 but I dithered and then she sold it. Huge mistake on my end. Should have grabbed it and stored it till I found a Runner with a blown 3.0 headgasket for cheap

$500 is a STEAL!!!! i would buy 20 of them and part them out. lol. I paid $1800 for this one. Works out ok since I plan on using front/ rear third member, rims, and Elocker setup.

Keep in mind that the Taco transfer case has the front drive shaft on the left (driver side). So most peeps will keep the old tranny or if you use the newer 3.4 tranny you need to switch to an older 4 cylinder transfer case that has the DS drop on the right side. IIRC you need an adapter to do that, probably also need a custom or different cross member.

Hopefully that is from the motor mount perch collapsing into the frame, the Tacos were pretty weak in that area. The Taco desert racers have to reinforce the frames because jumping will collapse it or break around welds. Our frames are SO MUCH better than those Tacos its really sad (for them).

I need to tear it apart and see what is going on, I didnt see any leaks around themotor and it sounded good. Mr.Goat, Thanks I was aware of the driveline issue being on the driver's side. what I wanted to know is if the transfer case off the v6 will bolt on or nor or do I need one from a 1st gen 4runner for sure. thanks.
On a side note... I think I found something new to tinker with..
$3500.. 96 4x4 v6 200k, replaced motor with 100k... hmm. tempting...

You might have to call Marlin or Inchworm to find out for sure, all my research was dealing with an auto tranny.

Thanks Mr.Goat, I appreciate it. I think I will need to call them up and see if it will bolt up with some sort of adaptor.
