3.4L Swap ECU question
Hi, I've got a 1996 5VZ-FE out of a T100 that I am putting into an 84 4Runner. I have the entire drivetrain and wiring harness out of the T100, got the whole running truck with a wrecked body after my 22R blew up on me. I have a question regarding the ECU. I want to supercharge it and I know that the 1996 T100 had the first generation s/c on it, which is impossible to find, and the ECU doesn't play well with the second gen s/c. So I am looking at replacing the ECU with a later model M/T 4x4 ECU. The question I have is will a 4x4 M/T Tacoma or 4Runner ECU work with the engine/wiring harness out of the T100, or would I have to have a 1997+ T100 M/T 4x4 ECU and harness? I am doing a complete rebuild on the truck with my dad and currently the frame and engine are out from under the body, so now would be the ideal time for a s/c install. Thanks for any help you can offer, I appreciate it greatly.

I'm currently doing a 3.4 swap with a T100 ECU and harness. I can't definitively say it will or won't work, but after looking at the EWDs for '96 T100's and '96 4Runners, there are some differences between the wire harnesses. From what I've read in other forums, its much less of a headache to stick with a wire harness and ecu from the same vehicle. There's a ton of good info from what other people have done on this site, do a quick Google search and you'll find plenty of builds. https://www.offroadsolutions.com/ has a ton of info, that where I started with my build. Good luck.
