3.4L 2WD into 3.0L 4WD?

i imagine all it would be is the 4wd wiring BUT you still need a 4x4 ECU. it is highly recommended that you use the ECU from your donor. i think some guys have done it. The hood hole cutting doesn't take much explaining, you can feel where the hood is touching when it is "closed" partially then just sharpie where it doesnt feel to be touching. check out my swap thread to get a picture.

yes it is possible. Look at wiring diagrams to figure it out. Auto/Man 2x4 4x4...dont matter the ecu will run a 3.4 just have to be prepared to cut corners or lose features by not using the correct ecu to fit your setup...im swapping in a 1997 2wd auto 3.4 in my 1991 manual 4x4 3.0...plan on tricking the neutral position switch and as for the 2x4 4x4 you will just lose the 4wd indicator light in your dash but its still going to work because its all mechanical not computer controlled.

You can run a 2wd ecu just fine and still retain 4wd light.
The ecu does get a signal from the transfercase switch but I don't know exactly what it does. It will run okay though.
