asg1290,

what did you wind up using as a EWD (electronic wiring diagram) for your '88? I am in the middle of designing up my harness right now for an '88 3VZe R150 4Runner as well, and I am having trouble locating one. I have the FSM from '88, but it only has the 22RE stuff in it not the 3VZE. I have looked at the 1990 4Runner stuff from Toyota's TIS site and nothing is even close.

Would you happen to have anything you could send my way? The EWD you used for the 3.0 side of things, notes you took, etc. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

I have an 89 FSM that contains the 3VZE in it, I could scan what ya need. Let me know. The guy who helped with the wiring had a bunch of 3rd party shop manuals. The name of the manual escapes me right now. I need to stop over there in the next few days and I'll ask him the name again.

That would be awesome! I'm not sure if the '89 is the same as my '88, but It.s worth a look. I guess I would just need the stuff pertaining to the 3VZE Manual Trans.

Thanks!

I'll try and the diagrams to ya shortly. I tried to scan them but the diagrams in the back fold out so far it wasn't fitting very well. I may use a high resolution camera to take the picture instead.

Just an update on how she is doing since the swap was done. Things were running fine but I encountered my first problem during a crazy rain storm. The engine started to lose power and I had to leave it for the night. The next day it started right up again. I got it home and cleaned out the MAF and put some Fuel Injector cleaner in and things seemed to be ok again. Then it happened again and it turned out the O2 sensor was not reading on the computer during the rain, replaced the O2 sensor and all was good.

I have attempted to get the tach working and soldered on the 10k resistor using the instructions I found on the web for the 1st gen but still have nothing. My buddy tried to hook up a wire directly to the tach from another car and still got nothing so I am thinking I have a bad tach.

Sent it up to my body guy and had him put on the hood scoop, touch up the paint job, clean up some rust, and straighten out a the frontend a little. I lost the toyota stripes but it looks pretty nice regardless. I found some cheap 31s on craigslist and put new ball joints and idler arm on it. It rides great now and it flies down the highway!

Taking off to Telluride this coming weekend and plan on doing some of the lighter runs around the area and see how she holds up.

Nice rig! I'd love to swap a 3.4 in my 84 4Runner. I'd like to check yours out in person sometime.
