I think that my left front wheel bearings are shot. I went wheeling last friday and was climbing a realy steep hill when the front end started hopping and making noise.... and then when i got on the highway the steering felt funny. And now i noticed that the tire is showing signs of uneven wear beggining... Im guessing that the problem is the wheel bearings because just about everything else in the front end is new or doesnt show signs of damage. Can someone please tell me some info about wheel bearings?

Are you sure its not the CV?

 

that cv happens to be less than a year old... and i could be wrong but i dont think a busted cv would cause poor 2wd handling and weird tire wear...

 

Unless you have manual hubs and they are unlocked the CVs still turn in 2WD.

 

Since you would only be doing one side and have never done it before...I'd say it'll take 2-3 hrs. It takes me 2 hours to take everything apart down to the rotors on both sides. You don't have to separate the rotor from the hub so that saves some time. Just make sure you pack the new bearings well and put plenty of grease in there. You will need a new grease seal for your hub. It's really not a difficult job to do.
