Just bought a 93 SR5 xtra cab pickup and the gas pedal seems really stiff. Is there a way to adjust it so it is a bit smooother?

I just bought a 95 and it's the same for me. You push a little and nothing happens, so you push harder and harder and then it GOES suddenly, usually faster than I'd prefer. Very hard to make a slow smooth start. Going to read that link

That doesn't seem to have any connection to the gas pedal?

If the throttle body is so dirty that the butterfly valve is not able to function correctly, it may cause the gas pedal to feel "stuck" at times.

I'm not saying this is the problem, but your gas pedal is what operates the throttle body.

Is it an auto? If so, three should be a "kickdown" cable attached to the same plate where the throttle cable is. It's purpose is to increase the fluid pressure in the tranny at higher speeds to minimize slippage.

If this cable is kinked or the jacket is otherwise causing a lot of friction on the cable, then you'll get the exact symptom that you described. I have this problem in my truck.

You can try dropping some liquid graphite down it or some motor oil - WD40 will just burn off from the temps down the path that the cable travels.

If you do find that it's the kick-down cable, then know that the only RIGHT way to fix this is to replace the cable, it's about $55 - write to user TOR here on the forum if you need one - he's a TRD parts dealer doing VERY fair pricing for folks.

Now, the downside to this is that to replace this cable you have to drop the tranny pan. That's a bit messy of a job (you'll spill a couple of quarts of tranny fluid) and if you're not handy in a driveway with tools, it can be a couple of hours of labor charges.

Not sure how much a throttle cable is, but my friends 89 3.0 manuel throttle cable was very stiff. We used my cable luber and it solved it instantly. You can purchase these from any motorcycle or quad dealer. You disconect the cable at the throttle body and you can inject fluid all the way through the cable. Costs about $14 including lubricant.
