Oil Filter Relocation kits...
Quick question regarding these kits, which type filter can you use with these "kits"? Would I be able to use any filter with them or their specific brand?

The one I have takes a toyota filter only.Im looking into a truefilter reusable oil filter.It has a nice aluminum housing with o rings and a stainless steel screen.I will let you know how it gose.

Thanks. I hope if I do purchase a relocation kit I wont have to use a specific brand of filter but choose.

You may be able to use a little bigger one.Do a search and see what comes up.With the relocation kit it gives you a little more room.I ordered an aluminum hosed filter that has a stainless steel screen that you clean and reuse.I will let you know how it works out after I get this cast of my arm.

Most of the oil filter relocation kits for Toyota will fit a multitude of different filters. The ¾"-16 thread is a very common size. Using Fram numbers (easiest to cross-reference to other brands), the following I know will fit (from smallest to largest):
PH-3614 (stock Toyota size)
PH-3600 (Ford Taurus V6)
PH-43 (old Dodge 6 & 8 cyl)
PH-8A (old Ford, Landcruiser)
PH-966B (old Ford truck)
I prefer the huge (1½ qt) PH-966B size filters myself. They're just hard to find sometimes.

What about a PH-16 and the PH-13?
'90 Ford Bronco II with the 4.0L v6 has the same thread config - PH-8A as do most older fords

You just need to be sure and use a filter with an internal high pressure bypass valve like the Toyota type filters use. Most domestic vehicles build the bypass valve into the filter mount so the filter is just a plain filter. That is unless the filter relo-kit adds a bypass valve inside it.

Most all spin-on filters I've ever run accross have an internal bypass valve. All the ones I listed do at least. All of them open in the 16-20psid range which is comparable to Toyota.
