There are quite a few of these devices around, including a few from Griot's.

This next one is a little different than the one above. You can also use this to put stuff back in with.
I think for an oil change the one above will work out best.

Be sure to read the tech tip at the bottom of the first link above.
I don't know. Here is my take on it.
Draining gets the natural force of gravity to force the oil down.
With a pump, it may leave some residue behind, though they claim it does not.
Plus if you have a magnetic drain plug, the inside threads may have metal shavings trapped on it that these pumps are unable to extract.
Just a thought. But of all the ones I have seen, the Griot's first one looks to be about the best.
I do know that Griot's stands behind all of their products with a lifetime warranty, and will gladly refund your money if you are unsatisfied.
No, I don't work for them, though I have been accused many times.
And yes, they do read our forum here.
They are a local company not to far from me.

Tech Tip
A Japanese magazine (Automechanic, Nov. 1997 issue) tested our Oil Extractor to see if it would be able to withdraw more oil versus draining the oil using the "drain plug" method. Great news! The Oil Extractor was able to withdraw an additional 71ml of oil on a late model Toyota. Due to the ultra tight packaging of engine compartments these days, it seems manufacturers are locating the drain plug in areas that compromise complete oil drainage. You're gonna love changing your oil!

Well I was going to make changing oil easier with this:

But it's not magnetic and $20.00 seem a bit much.
If you get the pump let us know how it goes.

I don't know about that valve setup. It seems a little too easy to get the oil out. I can think of a few situations where you may bump it by accident somehow.
The pumps seem nice, but it does seem like a lot of money to spend on something that is generally not a big deal (taking off the oil plug). What's another 71ml really anyway?

Don't know if the PP drain is the same as this Fumoto.
This will be installed when I do my next Amsoil change. Also great since I plan to analize my oil from time to time. It's has a lock and double seal so I'm not worried. Here's how good this drain is...
The Engine Oil Drain Valve has been tested and granted "Genuine Parts" status by 6 major motor vehicle manufacturers in Japan, including Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Isuzu. These approvals were not granted easily and gaining them was a testimony to the quality and durability of Engine Oil Drain Valve.
In the United States, the Engine Oil Drain Valve is being installed at the factory level on some of the vehicles made by Ford and Freightliner.
Good enough for me.

plug
I like the plug but is there a way to lock it close. Look like it could get hung up on rocks or something and open.

It looks like it keeps you from having to remove the gravel guard (aka bunny deflector/ skidplate) to change oil. Taking that thing off is a pain. Maybe to some its worth $58 for that reason. My bunny deflector has been in the trash for 2 years so I don't have to consider that part of the job. My oil changes take about 12 minutes using the time tested gravity method of draining the oilpan.
