EGR info needed.

Okay I have a 1990 4runner v6. I am wondering if there should be a wire for the EGR temp conected to the EGR? I bought it used and it did not have one on there. I see the little hole on the side of the EGR valve but there is no wire hooked up. I have also discoverd a wire that looks to be unhooked and in the location of the EGR valve. Here is a photo of the EGR and wire.

Am I missing the Temp sensor? And if I am could this be why I am getting a code 71?
It is a Fed/Canada vehicle.
Witch leads me to another question. Why if it is a FED and CAN Vehicle would I be getting the code 71, witch is only for California Vehicles according to my Manual?
Dose anybody have a FED/CAN emissions Yota that has the temp Sensor wire?

I don't have anything in that hole on my '90 v6 either. I have a loose grey connector just laying around too. Either we both have problems, or there isn't any problem with that.

My Canadian 93 4Runner 3.0 V6 had a EGR temp sensor, but it was never connected to anything. It had about 3-4 inches of wire with a connector that wouldn't match anything else. And I also had that grey connector that you circled but it did not match the temp sensor connector.
The temp sensor threads into the hole, looking at your pic I can't tell if the hole is threaded or not. If it isn't then i don't think there is supposed to be a sensor in there.

I once removed this sensor from that spot. I drove around for awhile and eventualy my check engine light came on. I never checked for a code, I just plugged it back in and the light went out and never came on again. If you need this sensor I have one since im swapping out my motor for a 3.4. Let me know.

I wonder why some have this and some don't? Seems odd. What does the temp sesnor do anyways (other than read temp.)? Would this cause pinging? I'm going to check the local Toyota dealership and have them check my VIN to see if I need one.
Thanks for bringing this up! I had wondered about that hole a few time too.
Have fun all.
