Switch

Check the brake light switch attached to the brake pedal arm. Sounds like it's stuck. Pulll the fuse when you aren't driving so it doesn't drain your battery while parked (if that wasn't the problem). Don't forget to put it back in though...

Check to see that you're not low on brake fluid, even in the slightest.

I had the same problem. Sucks because you can't use cruise control when the light is on.

Turned out that the brake fluid level sensor was broken. Toyotas have a float style sensor attached to the rubber brake fluid cap on the reservoir. Over time this sensor wears out and can fail causing your warning light to come on making you think that it is your parking brake.

I just unplugged the thing at the cap. I check my fluids at every fill up to make sure the level hasn't changed.

Had this problem in my '89 p/u, but one day I was poking around my fusebox and the problem magically disappeared.
