Adjusting valves

just did a headgasket on a 22re and it runs like ลลลล still so i'm assuming i just need to adjust the valves when its warm. what is the best way to adjust them? Chiltons says to set it at TDC then check certain ones. after that do i crank it over again till the other are lose then check them or what. also what is the sensor in the side of the block below the oil filter. for some reason i can't find a plug for that and can't remeber if it was plugged in before.

not exactly sure which sensor you are taliking about but I would guess either knock sensor or oil pressure sensor. I'll look at my truck when I get home tonight.
