Free 350+Trans

Sadly my 89extnded cab 3.0 5spd transmission decided to die on me. I was originally going to sell my rig to avoid buying a remanned transmission and deal with my 3.0 that has an oil leak(quart every 2 weeks). A friend however has a carbureted 350 + 5spd in a 2WD chevy that he offered for me to put in my truck? will this work? is it worth it or should i just replace the tranny and later the motor? Please help I love my truck and don't want to give it up.

Yeah it will you just have to move mouts and get your transmission to hook up. Btw the 3.0 will only cause you problems. If you were going to do a swap get a Tacoma motor. I will hopefully be getting a 3.4 for my rig.

The cost and head ache of making it all work, you would be better off just buying a used transmission. Cost of getting a new driveshaft alone could buy a used transmission. Hit the classifieds and shop around, you could find one. Just my 2 cents.

Thank You for the Responses, your help is very much appreciated. I am just afraid of getting another poor condition tranny than having to replace it again.
when I replace the tranny is it just straight up dropping it out and bolting the new one back in or is there anything important I need to keep in mind when replacing it? Should I resurface the flywheel or is that really even needed?
