88 3.0 to fuel injected 4.3 (need pointers)

I have an 88 pickup, I pulled the old 3.0 and tranny, I still have the tranny though.i have a 96 S10 with a low mileage motor and a 5-speed tranny, I want to do the swap but im new to this game so I have many questions.would it be easier to buy an adapter for the r151 or should I use the s10 tranny and if so what modifications are necessary.What all needs to be done to do this swap, once I know what needs to be done I can generally figure out how to get it done myself.im a young guy and I take advantage of any oportunity to learn so any and all advice would be much appreciated, thanks

Depends on which transfer case you want to use will tell which is easier. If your 4wd of course

Do you have enough $ , it will cost more than you think . The little stuff will add up. Im no swapping pro. I did lots and lots of reading and searching before i did mine.
Most people seem to have problems with the wiring . Search painless , and other places to see if theres a harness or you can fab your own if take your time.
Search advanced adaptors . If you use the gm trans will the transfer case be on the right side to match your front diff?
Do you need to be smog legal ? If not they might make a carb kit for your motor to keep it more simple.

Yeah 4wd, what do you mean which transfercase? I want it 5 speed other that that I dont care, I have a r151, w56 and the gm 5 speed.ill do whatever it take to make it work

I can handle the cost, im not sure if its on the right side ill have to check, no it doesnt have to be smog legal, would carbing it be more simple even though the original motor was efi?

I would try to keep gm trans then adapt to a toy 4 cyl tcase.
The cheapest would be keep all gm if the out put is on the right .
Can you weld and fab brackets for the motor and trams mount ?
Yes carb would be a lot easer . Call summit racing and ask what you would need .

I can weld and fab brackets if given dimensions/instructions. But I do not know how to determine where to weld them in

x2 on this idea.I would get the transfer case adapter and run the 5spd.

Exactly that. Which transfer case do you plan on using?? Depending on pricing you could buy an 4.3 to r150 adapter and use a toy case or use the GM manual (guessing it's an NV3500) and adapt the toy case to it. Or any other transfer case that could work.

All the little things add up and add up quick. It also depends on how nice you want it. So far Im around $2700 into my 4.3 swap (not including the price of the motor/trans, but does include rebuilding the trans myself which was about $600) and Im not done yet, but close.

If my 4runner would have been a standard, I would have probably kept the r151. Definitely would fit in the truck better. the gm auto is huge.

You are so right bump530. Once it starts looking good you want to do the best you can . By the way this is my first auto (l460e) wheeler and don't think I would ever go back to stick . Put some 4.7 gears in the tcase and your good to go.
