22r to 22re

To start things off I have a 93 22re pickup. Spun a rod bearing and now trying to rebuild it. I ended up buying an engine and there's more differences than I planed on there being. The engine I bought says 22r on the block, has different looking pistons, and dual timing chain. Is it possible to swap heads? And is there anything I should know before I try to drop the new engine in?

You got an early 22R like pre 82. They are not combustible as far as converting to 22RE with what you got. Search and you'll find lots of info on this topic.

Sorry I just realised I said that backwards. I'm going from the 22re to the 22r. If I remember right the guy I bought it from said it was out of an 85.

The one thing I really cant figure out is if the heads are the same. The pistons are different so I'm not sure if the 22re head would have any clearance issues.

the engine parts are different.the block deck height is different, the head thickness is different and the pistons will not interchange with each other, these changes were made in 1985 and up engines.the crank and rods will interchange in any of the years, hope this helps.

Ok so.

I have a 93 22re has some wiring issues, exhaust is falling apart due to nothing holding it up, had a muffler shop do work on it a long time ago, they messed up my electrical and caused me head aches, so i got money from them to re-compensate for my electrical repairs. My muffler fell off in transit from San Diego, CA to Arcata, CA. There are two pick ups in the area for sale seems like both would be a nice come up to swap my motor. I have issues with the rear main and clutch atm as well. My trans input spline (I don't know what it's called) that inserts into the block and clutch is slightly warped. It has bearing wear, So basically a lot of work.
For a student and someone who needs a job many options are not available.

I was thinking about picking up either or of these trucks and putting the engine in my truck with some help. Less of a hassle for me.

Then I could probably get away with selling off the rest of it for parts.
I wouldn't mind picking up the one in Crescent since they say it's a rebuilt.
Thoughts, advice, etc etc would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
