You bought a entire donor so you already have everything you need.

Hello, all,

I continue to struggle with my 89 4R, which runs and shuts off.

Got offered a 3.4 to replace original 3.0, somethin I would eventually do but opportunity knocks.
Question. Donor is a 2002 4R, with the 3.4.
Mine, of course, is the 3.0, 5 speed. Although I have read as much as I can find about the swap here and else where, does anyone know if this is a doable swap? Will it bolt to my tranny? ANy major problems about I should know?

Thanks for all your input

Alex

You have read as much as you could find and didn't find if it will bolt up to your existing trans? Have you looked in the 3.4 swap section??

For you most likely not!! It all depends on your mechanical aptitude and your research capability .

Your not off to a very good start

There is a bunch of info pretty much answer all your questions .

3.0 to 3.4 swap

THanks for the replies.

Yes. I did read the section on 3.4 swap, including this you included. I guess formulating the question better would have been a plus.
I know that 3.0, 95-2004 are comparable, but what I don't know is if all 3.4 are "created equal" or there are limitations when attempting to swap. The articles I have read do not make a specific reference and most swaps do not include anything in the 2000's...at least, I have yet to see one. Of course, I am new to this forum so forgive my ignorance. Thanks

sometime in the 2000's they stopped drilling the block for a dipstick. That and electronics will be the biggest difference. As long as you get a complete donor with all matching components you're set. Most people take the opportunity to freshen up the donor motor while its out.
