disturbed!

got it out of the garage tonight

Sounds like a CV joint is shot (axle was from a scrapyard) & the transmission isnt quite right.

wont shift out of 1st and wants to cut out on light throttle when in gear.

Looking good, nice work.

IFS rims, Std solid axle rims or cruiser rims ?
Mine runs cruiser rim (8" wide, 0 offset) and fits no problems with the IFS hubs, 60 series rotors & rotor spacer(30mm?).

BTW, is that a little map of Oz on the tailgate ??

cheers dude, they're 14" shocks, looking at the pic it looks like there's another 4-5" left to drop..should of measured the shaft.

they do need some fine tuning tho..I'm going to increase the oil volume (in 20ml increments) i rekon it need another 60ml or so from researching similar builds

They are 15" Modular Steels (7J), not sure on the offset or whether they are IFS specific. Its the tyre well (that aids tyre fitting) that interferes. After more research some 15" alloys are OK due to a shallower well. Im sure the 8J would provide a little more room too.

It is OZ yea, comes with the Aussie Locker

Cheeky Update..

Not much happening really other than some 35's and a bit of paint (which still needs finishing!!)

Couple of vids from our local site..not been out much to be fair.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04NgkiWN_AY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2Y1_tup5PE

there's a few more on my youtube page if you're interested.

I've just scored a 2001 LC rear axle with LSD, so I'm going to link the rear at some point in the near future and throw the LSD up front for now..I'm happy with the Aussie in the back.

Still need to get the air shocks dialed in, but I maybe chicken and opt for coilovers when I do the back? I need to shift the top link on the front to the opposite side too, this will allow a little more room for the panhard..I'll have to clearance (or re-make) the oil pan off the 1UZ too. That should allow me to lower the overall ride height a couple of inches (around 25" to frame on level ground) and increase the bump travel (currently around 80-90mm)

Very cool. Isn't the LC rear a 9"? Wouldn't that be running two different size thirds?

Cheers..

The alxle's from an LC prado (dunno what they're badged as with you guys?) I think, so essentially just a 3rd gen. I stripped the axle this eve but never thought to double check..I'll have a look when I go out tomorrow..

Yes, full size LC rear is 9.5" low pinion so will need to either use the 80 series LC housing after reducing the width about 4" or use a 60 series LC rear housing (same width) which uses the larger 9.5" centre.
Different size third doesn't matter as long as the ratio is the same as front.

If it is from a LC Prado it is 8" centre & should be sweet, check the width tho as it may be a touch wider not sure.

well I had a crack at putting the LSD in my front axle..

FAIL

I was a little presumptuous I think, thought I'd get away with just swapping the ring gear and re-fitting the carrier into my axle. However, all the bearings were bigger in the LC 3rd (it is a Prado - KDJ90/95), which I s'pose in hindsight is a bit obvious really.

Its no major drama, I''l just have to swap out the pinion as well, but need the crush sleeve to do that & because there's some old lady celebrating something over here everywhere is closed down until Weds..

Why can't you swap the entire 3rd member ???
Is it HP front ??

Crown wheel & pinion are a matched set, should not mix & match them unless they have been lapped to work together or are usually noisy and can be weak as the teeth don't quite mesh properly.

the prado was running 4.1:1 where as i'm running 4.56:1

My plan was pull the 4-pin LSD, swap ring gears and re-install back into my casing..but with the 4-pin not fitting my casing i'll have to swap my pinion (4.56) over into the prado casing and then refit the whole 3rd like you say..just missing the spacer to allow me to do that!

apparently there's different bearings you can use to get the 4-pin carrier into the 2-pin casing, but seen as I have the 4-pin case may as well use it

Ok, 4 pin case is stronger anyway.
You may consider shiming up the LSD while it's out as the limit on the slip doesn't usually last long in the rear.
If you shim it tight it will act a bit like a front locker, not as good as a locker but not bad.
