Jus been tinkering around trying to get little jobs done..fuel pump this morn'



Tank out and ready for investigations.




Ready to fit the pump. Engine feed trimmed to appropriate length & 'cap' drilled @ 12mm with a piece of fuel pipe inserted to take the wires.





Final assembly. This is where I realised it wouldn't fit through the hole I 'snipped' a notch out as not to get any debris in the tank






Job done..the sleeve for the wires was back filled with RTV gasket seal, as was the underside of the sleeve where it passes through the cap. I don't think it needed it, but while the stuff was there..why not.

Fuel pump was one I had floating around, it's from an Escort Cosworth & looks pretty much the same as the skyline one, rated at 255l & good for 500bhp in the Ford so it'll do. Oh, and it seems they're cheaper than the skyline ones after a quick scout on eBay.

Welcome to the family... you folks getting all ready for the big day over there? why the switch to a more expensive (fuel/road tax) Petrol burner? especially since you don't have unlimited speed hwys or tracks to really hammer it on? Just curious... I guess they know you well over at roughtrax4x4 eh?

 

haha..yea I'm ready I'm only 30mins away from my mate Wills' place & kite surf on the island (Anglsey, ynys mon {the island in Welsh})..I also mountain bike in the Snowdonia national park..so there's a good chance I may need to call on his services one day

As for the truck, it's not as mental of an idea as it sounds. The V8 is in the same road tax band (due to age rather than engine size) as the oil burner & returns similar MPG, if not slightly better. Petrol is 5p/litre cheaper than diesel at the mo' too. So what do you get for all the effort..the V8 growl, which is still pretty rare over here & double the power of the diesel. With the 3-link, rolling on air shocks, I doubt it will see much over 60 anyways

 

You should invite them over for a track run and a pint afters... they are your neighbours after all...
I'm surprised the V8 is in the same tax band I'd have thought otherwise...
also surprised about the petrol I'd have expected it to be dearer.
I thought road tax was all judged on engine size/fuel.
Hope you never need HRH's services professionally speaking anyway...

You got me doubting then so I had to go and check..

Pre 2001, there are 2 bands upto, and over 1549cc.

Then post 2001 there are something like 15 different bands based on your Co output ranging from free..to well over £400

I dare say it's only going to get worse..but if all goes well and I keep the truck long term I'll probably fit an LPG system.

My steering parts and shocks are en-route so I should be able to make some progress again

 

So would the tax band be based on the year of the truck or the year of the engine considering it is now a "hybrid".
Here when you do that kind of thing the vehicle is considered to be a "hot-rod" and my understanding (from mechs. I've talked to) the smog rules get complicated.

You used to be able to get LPG and NG all over the place here now though all the NG pumps are being taken out of service and vehicle propane is impossible to find due to lack of demand.

 

How's the project coming along, any updates ?

 

Hey.. Yea been cracking on, steady away.. 95% of the fab' work is done, it's all stripped back for welding up proper which is going to take a good few hrs..so that translates to days for me as I can only do a little each day.

All 'seemed' to be ok when it was mocked/tacked up, jus hope it stays that way.

Then it's onto getting the motor running

hey an1mal... good to see the project progressing... love that engine paint it looks very sharp... going with a desert camo paint plan for the surf? You going to use RA spec. paint codes/camo plans to make her look like an 'Official Vehicle"?
btw have you run into the newlyweds in the local yet?

 

lol..you're not too far off..Kate shops in Waitroes around 15 miles away. Wouldn't be too much of an astronomical alignment event to bump into her.

As for the truck..this was my inspiration for the paint



the motor was a test to see if i like the scheme, which i do. Im going to get a gallon of 'nato sand' and use a foam roller to apply it, then aerosol the 'patches' on. A ton of work to do before titivations tho

the wheels wouldnt go on with the brakes on using the IFS hubs on the solid axle means the steels will not fit..waiting on some 30mm spacers until i have cash for 16"'s & 35's

 

What steering Stabilizer is that? I have never seen on with a coil spring on it.
