Toyota rear in a Mazda
Hi all, I have an '87 Mazda b2000 that I want to swap a Toyota rear axle into.
I need it to be 58" wide so I think that would be pre '96 and I want to have a 4.56 ratio to run 235/75-15 tires. Since it is 2wd I would also at some point like to put one of the ARB air lockers in it. It seems, from the research I have done, that the only differential available with that gearing in a 58" wide axle is a '95 prerunner with a 10 bolt ring gear which is not compatible with an ARB locker. I'm asking for suggestions as to how to set up a 58" wide, 6 lug axle with 4.56 gearing and an on-demand locker.
Thanks for any help

Subscribed because I have toyotas and ford courier (mazda). Can't help with lockers but for your reference, all my 86-88 toyota rears, stock, are 58", 4.10, and pushed 225's or 235's. Exception was the stock auto, 4.3 gearing.

I have a stock 3.9 and we go forward but with such a small engine it's just too tall. The 4.3 would be better but I think even slower still would be better yet. I probably won't find one that narrow that will accept the arb

86-95 toyotas (1st/2nd gen 4runners, 2nd/3rd gen pickups) rear end measures 58.5 some came stock with 4.56 gears and you can buy arb lockers or e-lockers to fit in these housings.

No problem, also just to let you know, the 2nd gen 4runners were coil spring, so if your mazda is leaf sprung, ull have to cut the coil buckets off and weld leaf spring perches on.
