Longfield 5th stud kit

Anyone have any exprience the 5th stud high steer trunion bolt setup from Bobby Longfield? It's near the bottom of the page here:
http://www.longfieldsuperaxles.com/

I have an SAS'ed 88 truck that I bought already built. Looks to have the Trail gear 4" SAS kit with the 4 bolt high steer kit that's included. I see lots of failures from guys on here, and am looking for a relatively quick and cheap way to fix that weak link.

I broke a ton of knuckles and studs of the years. I wouldnt think that little tab would be a fix all. For 50 bucks you can make something nicer and stronger.

FWIW

Stock studs and knuckles I sheared studs off...

Stock knuckels ARP studs I broke the knuckles or the trunion bearings...

Most of the time when studs break its because they arent torqued properly. It's hard to remember all the time before every run. The 5th stud is just cheap insurance. Make your own man....its a danged piece of angle iron and a BOLT....good luck and keep those studs tight!

My studs got torqued before every run and at lunch. They got rechecked before the next trail ride. I fixed mine the easiest way possible, ditched all the parts that broke By far the best thing I did

The driver side u-bolts don't look right...or is it just the picture angle?

Never had a problem with a steering arm stud since I went chromoly and six shooters. Never had a problem before either.

Axle was just kinda in, nothing was tightened just snugged. IIRC they hit the welds a bit and I ground the weld down a bit.

I had issue's with knuckles, studs, birfs and gearsets. I wheeled with people that had trunion bearings blow apart, highsteer arms break the pins off ect. This was the most logical and cheapest fix for me. I have less into my 60 than I did my toy axle and some 6 shooters and can still upgrade. For me it was the right choice.
