DD your sas

Okay the 88 4 runner I'm picking up from a buddy currently has a trailmaster lift but I'm looking to SAS it in the near future. This 4 runner will be my daily driver/ hunting/ light wheeling but i'm not a fan of IFS and I believe the front diff is busted anyway. I'm going to put my 35 inch nitto trail grapplers on it and keep the 4.88 gearing he swapped into it. How many of yall daily drive your SAS'd yota? Any big key differences? Still highway drivable? comfortable to drive around town? ride similar?

I have a solid axle already, light wheeling is probably different for me. My wheeling rig is on 42s and one tons with a 350+ hp v8..... So I want this to be a backup rig and some moderate rock crawling. Plus the r&p is busted in the front so no point polishing a turd.

Light wheeling implies its not leaving on a trailer like my other rig

Lol...I see what you mean dude..my DD isn't an sasd yoter but I'm sure it will obviously not be as smooth as an ifs on the street but some people (me) like the rough ride on the street. We're in a 4x4 for a reason. I'm sure if you wanted a smooth ride you'd be in a Cadillac.

Ride quality directly correlates to the skill of the builder and the quality of the parts used if doing a SAS and dding it.

Probably gonna run a TG kit because he is giving me TG springs for the rear etc..

Also I haven't been able to just drive to a trail and drive back in a long time, all my rigs have had full hydro and were definitely not street legal. Sometimes I don't feel like hauling my gooseneck places. And Wabfab I might just have to drop the runner off with you one weekend when I go visit my buddy down in Clanton,AL

and a pic before he busted the front diff etc.

Can't help evil thoughts, might have a spare pair of 14 inch foa coilovers. Would throw off budget build completely though

Man that's a nice clean looking 4runner, look forward to seeing the build up! Im almost finished with my SAS on my 86' runner and plan on DD it. So far I've test drove it around the block a few times (lots of pot holes and bumps) and am happy with the ride (it will be better once I get my shocks!) But I'm running 2 sets of RUF springs (6 leaves total) because I'm running a 302 V8.

Thank you but it hasn't been that clean in a long time. It has been sitting in a shop covered in mud on jackstands for 2 or 3 years. The clutch master cylinder failed and the pinion nut backed out causing the front end to lock up( I think he said that). Going to pay for it tomorrow as one of my good buddies owns it.

I have a '86 truck on a SAS full width swap. The only bad thing about it being a DD is the square shafts, of course the front stops but rears always turning and some say ones ok on the street. I feel it's a daily now and I daily it but that and the Chevy 63's are stiff. Other than those two things it's great! It's a lot better being all leafs than my old rig on a 8in longarm for sure. The fact I'm all wheel disc brakes helps a lot too. It's on little 37's now.

Actually my wifes '82 with the straight axles drives awesome on the street! The difference makes me want to biuld a better D-shaft and do away with my rear square.

Mines on 37's and I bet if I charged the old R-12 ac she'd drive this thing to work lol. Hide the keys to her ride and say she has to drive it lol.

Hahaha... women. My gf complains about getting in mine and doesn't enjoy the ride. Gets carsick on the highway

I DD the rig in my avatar (link in sig)

I like it. I like the truck feel and actually enjoy driving this over my dads 87 2wd or when this rig was IFS on 31's... handles great even at 70mph.

only annoying aspect is having a n AutoLocker.. 3 years and I still don't really like it on road... gets old when you're making slow sharp turns

My wife likes my Toyota a lot better than my old XJ rock crawler. She just can't take the heat or smells of a old dirty crawler lol. Mines Lincoln Locked in the rear and I really hate it.

I DD my 01 Tacoma SAS. Only thing is I'm running a 3 link where your looking at doing leafs. My buddy SASed his 94 4Runner and did the trail-gear springs and it's right! Rides pretty good and is very stable off road.
