Thumbs up You've gotta check this out!!!

I picked up a copy of National Geographic Adventure(August 2004, Vol. 6, Number 6) yesterday and on the cover reads "The Wildest Road Trip-Canada to Mexico-99 Percent Pavement Free" plus "5 Best Backroad Drives."
The article inside is titled "Hey Honey, Have You Seen the Road Lately?" It's about a guy and his girlfriend that drive from Canada to Mexico using dirt roads and trails only. It's an awesome article! Most of you out west probably already know about most of these trails, but to me, here in Florida, it was all pretty new and exciting. I think I'm going to do this one year. It would be great to get together with a bunch of other people and try it out.

I dream about that kind of trip a lot... only touch pavement to re-supply and bathe in some tiny forgotten town before going bear chasing for another week.

I want to do it on a motorcycle!

we have several neat chunks of the Great Western Trail within 30 miles of my home...

We call a portion of it Smilely Rock Trail, an easy put put run over Mingus Mountain.

I read the article and was immideately interested in doing some of it or something like it. Last year we took a trip up to Seattle and I really liked the culombia river gorge. Taking that road from the Bitterroot to the River gorge must have been a trip.
