I'll be heading from MN to Cheyenne soon and am looking for some 4x4 trail recs for eastern or central Wyoming. Any good suggestions out there?

There are some really nice trails in the Bighorns, as long as you keep away during hunting season. I'll try to dig up a couple of my maps that I've marked up and give you some destinations that are worth the drive.

If you do make it to the Bighorns, which I think is worth the extra couple hours for you, my main recommendation would be up near Lake Adelaide. Take FH 17 off of HWY 14 just south of the ski area at Antelope Butte. The road up to the lake is dirt but pretty easy, lots of people go up on weekends fishing and camping. From there there are a bunch of roads used by the cattle ranchers that head up into the passes. We took one around the north side of the lake, you cross a river that empties from the lake (scout it first, it was over the hood for us when we crossed) and then went up to Emerald Lake and came back down near the Medicine Lodge Lakes. I think this area may be inside the wilderness boundry now so check on the map if you go. There was no GPS the first couple times we did this and I didn't check two years ago when we were up there, but topo software should show you when you hit the boundry. We drove for about three days before we got back to pavement, and there are always side roads to explore. The only time I've ever run into people in that area is on weekends at the bigger lakes and during hunting season. The nice things is there are old roads all over the area, and for a capable vehicle like yours you can just pick a landmark like a lake or such and there will most likely be a way to get there.
Another option would be to wheel in the Black Hills on your way through. Some good hard core trails there. I spent my time climbing there so I don't know too many of the trails, but the locals could point you in the right direction. Have fun and take pics.

My folks live in Riverton, WYO and last fall I went up. I have a rig that looks about like yours (Transalper) and started out on the trail to Lake Chirstina. I couldn't make it all the way to the lake (got about a mile from there), because the rocks got bigger than I wanted to try but if I had been with someone else, I might have gone further.

It's on hwy 131 south of Lander.

Try this link.

It was a good trail (although I made it all the way in 2 wheel drive) and very pretty, but I needed a little more clearance. And it's quite a ways from Cheyenne, but it's about as far east as I can think of, unless you find something around Medicine Bow, as it seems like I saw some stuff around there.

Thanks for the tips guys. We are definitely looking into pushing a bit further west than originally planned based on your suggestions.

We'll take lots of pics. I hope we get lost.

Not really... I know there is a lot of stuff on HWY 131, you go out to the sinks and head south...

I also went out North of Riverton on local roads and then shot west to Wildhorse Flats on Rez roads (Don't know if that's legal or not, you may need a Rez pass if you don't pass for Native). That's more desert running, cattle dodging, and such but it looked like it could get messy if it rained. Some of the canjons back in there looked interesting...there were several car bodies off to the side or acting as road filler....
