Unorganized day event in lieu of PNWJ?

Since PNWYJ is cancelled, is anyone interested in an unorganized day trip in the Greenwater, WA area on Aug 2nd or 3rd?

I definitely wasn't going to make all 3 days of PNWYJ because of work, but I think I can do a one-day thing on Saturday or Sunday.

I'm not set up for hard-core stuff (non-lifted 2k 4R with the running boards on) although I've got a pretty good supply of recovery gear (but no real experience using it). I don't know where to go anyway for hard-core, so I'm just looking to explore around a bit. I don't have a specific destination in mind at this point, so I would just explore around on FS roads as an excuse to test the latest incarnation of my GPS map system.

If there is enough interest there could be more than one group. In my limited experience, I'd say more than 4 or 5 vehicles would be reason to split up. I don't want to feel like I'm in rush-hour traffic on I-5 having to turn around on a dead-end road. I also expect it to be pretty dusty up there and its no fun being in a big cloud of dust either.

Since this is unorganized, but hopefully not too disorganized, I would tentatively propose meeting at the Safeway in Enumclaw Saturday morning, form groups, and head out from there. I would hope that most participants would show up with maps or whatever they feel they need to navigate the area to retain the option of splitting up if the number of people dictates.

How does 7 AM sound? Is that too early or too late? I went out there a couple of times last year, but can't remember when we met. I could do earlier, but its over an hour from N. Seattle to Enumclaw if I remember right. I don't want to get up there too late either and decide right away it is too hot (AZ folks don't need to remind me I don't know what HOT is) although its supposed to be cooler on the weekend than it has been. I also like to have plenty of time since I don't get out that often.

I finally signed up earlier in the week Alan for the Jam, but my job would not give me Sunday off, and that ticked me off, so I was going to cancel going.

Now I hear the Jam is off, after getting the letter.
Ticks me off.
Even though I was not able to make the event, I was really looking forward to the aftermath of vids and pics of all the local Toys & other rigs that made it.

Is there a way to vote these FS people out of office?
If so, I'll gladly vote for one of their competitors next time.

Blows big time, I am still in shock about this, as I suspect the ones who were all packed and ready to were too.

I can't make the Green this weekend, but I am sick and tired of being cooped up in the city here, and I just put in for Sunday the 17th off, so I plan on camping up at Greenwater where the '01 Jam was held.
The campsite is right on the river, so you can relax by it.
I don't really plan on doing much 4wheeling that weekend, but may do a little.
I am mainly going to get out of Dodge, and relax with my feet in a nice cold river sitting smack dab in it in my lawn chair.

If indeed I can get the time off, anyone is more than welcome to come up to the campsite, spend the day, or the night.
I'll post direction to it later on.
To tired to dig up the coordinates tonight.

Pretty Lame

I have already sent an email to the person you were talking to telling them what I thought about this. I don't understand their decision at all, but to jump in with a total u-turn at the last minute is lame... I know that a lot of folks made many preparations for this run, as I did. There has to be someone in a higher position to turn to for review of the situation. If nothing else, everyone should bombard the guy with their opinion.

I might be up for a run to Greenwater. I was planning on going to Evan's Creek, but I one of my buddies has a 2WD Ford Explorer and it can't really hang... Since Greenwater is more fireroads I hear, it seems that it would be more doable for his "Exploder." What do you think? I would need directions how to get there though. Would be coming from Whidbey Island/Everett area.

Rome, we always meet at the Safeway parking lot in Enumclaw when we hit the Green.

If you are on highway 167 going South, you can take the Auburn exit off of 167 onto highway 18 going East.

You stay on that for about a mile, then there is an Auburn/Enumclaw exit on the right.
When you take that, you can get in the far left lane, then head into Auburn and stay on that, which is Auburn Way South.

A few miles you will come to the steep hill that takes you up to the Muckleshoot Casino.
The road eventually becomes highway 164.
You go for about 10 miles or less and will eventually come into Enumclaw.
Once you are into town, you just keep staying on the main drag, and you will eventually see the Safeway store across from highway 410.

Since you have been to Evan's Creek, you were on highway 410 for awhile.
If you continue up 410, you will come into Enumclaw, and see the Safeway on the right.

Greenwater is just another 25 miles or so straight up highway 410 going East.
There are two good areas to explore up there.
FS road 70 on the left which is just out of the little town of Greenwater, and FS road 73 a few miles up 410 on the right.
Suntop lookout (you can't miss the Suntop mountain, as it's the highest peak beside Mt; Rainier on your right) is access from FS road 73.
That is a pretty cool area to explore also.

I have many pics on my website
here of the Greenwater area.
It's really about the only area I go to since it's close by me.

I saw in a post on the PNW4WDA site that the Cle Elum Ranger station controls the area aswell in the naches pass. Both stations seem to have sketchy pasts with aggreeing on subjects as simple as if the pass is even open later on in the year. The Cle Elum station may have some insight on complaints made on the Naches station. This sucks but we will get over it. I am still going camping but not in that area being I do not want to be screwed with by some forestry jakoff. Im going up to the Enchantment Nat. Forest on this end of the Cascades to camp and explore. Im going to take pics to show I still can have fun even when someone messes up my prior plans. Anyone that wants to come over is more than welcome.

Who else is going to Evan's Creek?
What is going on?
I'll go anywhere, but remember that the FS Roads will be dusty since we haven't got any rain lately.

I want mudd, but I doubt if there will will be any this weekend.

There is a mad mud hole at Evan's Creek. I still haven't gotten all of the mud off my truck! This mud was the thickest stickiest mud that I have ever seen. There is a pic of my truck running through the mud hole on the NWZR2 site. Here is the pic:

I am going to Evan's Creek on Friday and camping out there and wheeling all day Saturday before going home. It would be cool to have more Toyotas around as my buddy will have a 2WD Explorer that can not keep up. Don't get me wrong, it is a cool poseur rig, but it can't follow the 4WD rigs everywhere.

Hey guys Gendefect is new to the site I think and was going to YJ03 to break in his Rubicon. He may go with you guys if he finds this thread or gets an invite. Not positive though. I just passed the word on to him in the cancelation thread. Seems pretty cool.

I have been to Walker Valley. The place is cool mostly for the guys who drive full-on rock buggies and highly modified rigs as well as the dirtbikers and quads. At the entrance there is a locked gate, with a rocky washed out bypass. It is said that if you can get past this rocky (will certainly eat your rocker panels unless you have sliders~I have sliders, but not enough ground clearance for the T-case) section, then you can traverse the rest. I might have been able to winch through but it was raining really hard that day. The rest of the place is all fire roads, so there is not much excitement unless you can get to the good stuff. On the road out back, there is another trail that I explored, the Lower Jeep Trail, which I could easily climb up until I got to another rock crawling area to get in. Until I am locked in front, and am running at least 33" tires, I think that I will stay away from there.

Cool, If there is nowhere else to go then I am game for Evan's Creek this Saturday. I know pretty much how to get there but just in case can you gimme a quick run down, I know there is a Y that leads to there. One goes to Carbonado and the other to Evan's Creek. It's going to be dusty but it's OK. I'm going to have my handheld CB and can tune it to any channel, (Channel 4 I believe is the "official" Offroader's channel.) Any alternative channels? I can also be reached via my cell phone, (253-686-3788) I am not sure if it will work while out there in the boonies, but I've had good reception with Verizon up at Crystal Mtn and Snoqualmie. Anyone else is going? It seems like a lot of people are going to be doing their own thing to fill up for the lost planning caused by the Forrest Circus. I'll be bringing my 13 year old daughter. She hasn't wheeled with me since I had my Tacoma and when we ran Shaw Lake and Reiter. BTW is that trail still open? Maybe we can run Reiter one of these weekend?

Yeah you got the idea how to get there. I was thinking that the 4 wheelers channel should be 16~since 4x4=16. But that is just me. We will be tuned to channel 4 though. As far as cell phone reception, I had pretty good reception on the ridgetop overlooking the entrance and Enumclaw in the distance, but I have Sprint. As far as Reiter Pit, I have never been there, but isn't that also where the Lake Isabel Trail is located? I think that it would be cool to explore more places especially since Reiter Pit is closer to where I am coming from I think. But it seems that Evan's Creek is the place to go this weekend. Here is the pic of my truck in the mud hole at Evan's Creek:

That is some crazy mud, huh?

DeathCougar, maybe we can hit Reiter's Pit the following weekend or another weekend. I will be heading out to Evan's Creek this Saturday AM. Unsure what time, most likely by 10AM.
I also was going to the YotaJam (Thanks a million to all who planned it). I promised my daughter I was taking her offroading so I will do. I am not sure who else is going to Evan's but I know for sure there is a guy with a Red Tacoma who is camping there Friday night and wheeling Saturday morning. I have not wheeled Evan's in 4 years so I am not sure the condition of the trails.

Either way, I will be there Saturday morning.

Anyone else going?

That's SICK! Have you done Tahuya before? They have some sick mudd also. I am waititng till I get some mud tires on my 4Runner then I will take it more to the extreme. I have an OME 881 1" lift on the front, I want more. I might go with the RaceRunner SAWs when I can fork out the $$$. I have an OME 891 2" lift on da back. I really want this 4Runner to sit taller than just a couple of inches. I am thinking of putting a 2" spacer on the back alongside with the SAW up front and crank it up to da max. The only problem is I don't know what shop will install parts that was not bought through them. If I go that route, I will sell my OME 881 with the OME shocks. I'm even thinking of a Trailmaster or Procomp, but that would be too much. I sit about an inch or so from a regular 4runner. When I put on 32s, maybe I will notice a taller difference. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....

I will be on channel 4 and will check 16 if I do not get a response on 4. I will also check the campgrounds. I plan on arriving there about 10-11am.

We won't be at the campground until evening. and we aren't camping at the actual campground, but on the ridge overlooking everything. Just holler on the radio, and I am sure that we will hear you and come get you or something.
