Long Canyon

Our club has a new adopt-a-trail called Long Canyon. We have a run scheduled on Oct 18th if you would like to go along. Trail is fine for stockers with additional lines available for more of a challenge. The trail head: Hwy-50, up Silver Fork, left into the woods where the Long Canyon sign is. Except for the sign, the rest of the trail isn't marked well. STH Future Trips Page.

There are a lot of dirt rds above Nevada City along and above the South Yuba River.
Might be able to make the back way into Upper Blue Lakes off of Hwy88, aka Red Lake Trail.

Since winter is near you might want to get out before things get to wet & white or you'll be more challenged. If you want to battle the snow hit Iron Mountain Road after the snows pile up.. its a popular spot for over the road snow wheeling.

ok if you want the best place to wheel, i would suggest Hollister Hills SVRA. they are pretty much the best place in california. i cant believe how many people have not heard of it. they hold the top truck challenge there. they have easy to triple black diamond trails. including playground areas with mud pits, water holes, obstacle courses, frame twisters, etc.

everything you could ask for or ever want is at HOLLISTER HILLS!!!!!! GO THERE!!!!!!

and let me know when you go so i can head down there too.

There is also the Corral Hollow and Mattely Loop trails near Bear Valley Resort off 7N09, Via Highway 4 . Slick Rock is up that direction also, but is more challenging.

Hollister Hills is probably 3 hours from here, but it's definitely worth it. I've been wanting to get back there again, but haven't had the means to.

I saw a stock '82 longbed, open diffs, on 31's go through Rubicon a month ago. But I wouldn't suggest it if you value your rig or like it to be clean w/o damage. I guess that same guy took a STOCK Tracker (29" tires and all) through last year! lol

If your just looking to play for an hour or two, Prairie City can be fun to explore. It's close to home and can give you some idea of what your truck can do. I've been meaning to get up there again. Plus, it's only $5.

Have you done any mods to your truck? Can you get pics to post?

Mammoth Bar is for motorcycles and atvs, no rigs allowed.

To the original post "good trails in Nocal", if you are into rock crawling, there is always the Rubicon Trail. A good starting place is at Loon Lake. I think you could just simply look it up. It's pretty hairy, but there are areas that are easy enough for a typical 4wd to get through. Was a native of El Dorado County for 30 years. There are other areas, Prairie City OHV park, not sure about 4wd's, it may only be for ATV's and motorcycles. Might want to search California Forestry links, it might link you to some other places. Have Fun and I truly miss home out there! In Colorado now.

highonpottery, I don't know if you could ever 4x4 at Mammoth Bar?
They might have just gave it a bad name, should be Mammoth Bar ATV/MX Park!
