Thumbs up South Puget Sound TCLA Chapter interest?...

According to Dean at Wilderness Toys they are no longer meeting as a chapter and haven't for months. Being stuck in the middle between Cascade Cruisers and Washington Timber Toys doesn't allow for a lot of participation when you have to travel 70-120 miles one way just to attend a meeting every month.

Anyone interested?

I was thinking of contacting the folks at Toyota of Olympia to host the intial few meetings as I went to HS with the owner and the used car manager is a long time friend of the family. If not there is lots of room in my house to hold a meeting.

Name? South Puget Sound Cruisers?... SPSC? Thurston Mason Cruisers?... TMC? Not to eliminate Pierce County, just tossing ideas out there... It would be really cool to start out with a bunch of FJ Cruiser owners because I am one but myself and TLCA embrasses all Toyota 4x4 vehicles.

Issues & areas of assistance: Straddleline OHV, Evans Creek, Elbe, Tahuya, all fairly close to Olympia, much better than traveling to Gold Bar or Browns Camp.

TLCA brings liability insurance to the table so we might even be able to work with some of the larger private land owners on use of their property, I would certainly like to see more areas available for OHV use in Thurston / Mason Counties. If every member also goes through the TreadLightly! Awareness Course it may also help when working with private parties...

The wave of off road excitement that the FJ Cruiser has created along with the gap in organized participation in South Puget Sound leads me to believe that we could do some great things here and have a ton of fun doing it! Living in the heart of "greener" country if we don't join the good fight now for OHV use everything in Washington State will become Sierra Club sponsored hiking trails...

I spoke with the folks at 4WheelParts in Tacoma yesterday they are open to hosting meetings, providing pizza & soda... Here is the best part...

After our TLCA chapter meeting they said for one hour all members in attendance can make purchases at WHOLESALE prices! Nice huh? However we need to become a chapter and provide them official documentation to submit to corporate for approval before all this could happen...

We need six active TLCA members to become a local chapter, including myself we have three commitments as of today...

Who's with me?

We are getting together for a meet & greet at The Ram in Lacey around 12:30PM this Saturday the 6th then maybe head up to Capitol Forest or Shelton afterwards. That would give me a bit more time to finalize our meeting places... both Toyota of Olympia and 4WheelParts in Tacoma sound like they are open to providing us parts and maybe service discounts. I would like to alternate months between locations to better serve everyone.

We need to decide on the following for Chapter Application submittal to TLCA:
1.> Club name
2.> Set of bylaws (there is a template available)
3.> Vote on who will be the chapter officers
- President
- TLCA Delegate (will participate in the monthly national TLCA meetings via phone.)
- Alternate TLCA Delegate
- Club Contact for Toyota Trails Listing
- Bulk Distribution Contact
Don't get scared away by thinking you will be taking on a bunch of responsibilities that will consume time you don't have available. I am willing to do as much as possible to get this chapter off the ground.

New FJC owners - don't worry about recovery gear and stuff right now, I just want us to get together at this point. Besides Capitol Forest & the Shelton area are Forest Service Road access only this time of year.

I downloaded the FJ Reference, Repair & Service Manual CD [300+MB] and will have some copies available for those that want one... (Thanks for the idea Corey!)

Successful first meeting of South Sound Cruisers!

We are planning our next meeting the first part of February to finallize our by-laws and submit our chapter application to TLCA.
