Shooting Trip

So, who's up for a shooting trip? How about we get together and bring some hardware up to the Pawnee grasslands, east of Fort Collins about 20 miles, and pop off some rounds? If anybody knows a good place to go shooting unharrassed, I would be open to suggestions. Anybody interested? Of course, I'm a safe, responsible, and trained shooter, and anybody who would like to try it for their first time is welcome as well.

That's cool, 22s are fun, and don't let anybody ever tell you otherwise. I have a Marlin bolt action 880SS .22 Long Rifle and a Ruger MkII pistol. They're both awesome. Anyway, the last time I did a trip like this with Cottora, there were plenty of guns for everybody to shoot. We had like 12 shotguns lol.

Cool! I like the Tubefed guns. I have a Norinco 12ga that is an exact knockoff of a Remington 870, with synthetic stocks and ghost ring sight. But my AR is my baby. Ogle her...

I've never been shooting, but would like to really really bad. Depending on the date, and money situation, I would join you guys. Plus, I could use any excuse to go out there and hit up the skate parks too.

milk cartons and cans. I've got some friends who shoot vegetables and fruits. Specifically, potatoes and oranges. It requires no cleanup and the fruit explodes in a comical fashion!

Spindleshanks, you know I'd be in but I'm still workin on the big cat. Haven't seen her yet, but I did call two bobcats in to 30 yrds that sunday after we went wheelin. First time i've actually had a critter come the the racket I was making, so I was prettty happy. Now on to the big girl. I'll keep an eye on this post though just in case I have success or just want to ensure my sights before the next go round.

Cajun.

Cajun;
Your calling skills must be getting better! I imagine it's a long term process getting the correct sound for the correct animal. What sounds similar to us may sound synthetic or odd to their acute ears. But you'll get it. If you get the big girl, make sure to post some pics for us, huh? Good luck... and be safe!

Definitely. My priority is responsible shooting, just like responsible wheeling. The farmers with land out there are generally accepting of the shooting that occurs, until their $5k windmill heads get shot up. I don't approve of the litter out there either, but a thorough cleanup will be part of our trip. there has been talk of organizing a designated shooting area at Pawnee, with or without supervision and fees. I think it'd be a good thing.

If you are serious about shooting the AR. The gun club I belong to is geared towards service rifles, etc, and long range shooting.

Check out www.bcgc.com/club

Ft Collins to Buffalo Creek is a drive. There is a link to the state shooting association on the page.

have fun and be safe.

BCGC sounds like a great resource. I'd love to participate in some of the AR clinics, especially getting to shoot match rifles. And I'd really love to shoot with some folks who are thoroughly familiar with the 'black rifle'. So many AR15 enthusiasts are so snobby, especially those who shoot Bushmasters. They hate my Rock River!

Alright, this post is back from the dead! Who wants to shoot this Sunday? I know your plinkers, hunting rifles and scatterguns, AR's and AK's, 22's and 45's are getting spring fever! Time to dust 'em off! Yeah peoples! Here are some options:

Place: Pawnee Buttes (open to other suggestions)

Ammo: Group buy on popular loads (like .223 or .45) We could all pitch in on bulk ammo from Sportsmans Warehouse or someplace like that.

Clay throwers?

So many possibilities!
