San Diego Trip 16&17 ?

Anyone interested in going out somewhere on the 16& 17 (fri and saturday).

My buddy and I are going out, but I have to be back somewhat early saturday night. I would like to get home around 4:00 or 5:00 on saturday. But I figure if I stay over friday night I can get a run in early.

Just gauging interest to see if anyone would liek to go out. Not sure where we'll be going. Open to suggestions.

sooner or later you and I will actually get to meet each other on one of these trips. Anyway, I am going on the big bear trip on the 10th and taking the wife for her first outing. Maybe I can hit it up the following weekend also. For me it will be something like Corral Canyon, a short day trip. Doesn't sound like what you had in mind though.

That is exactly what I had in mind. I was only gonna go out on friday so I would be ready to ride first thing. I need to be back homein the evning. I'd be down for corral canyon if I can squeeze it early into the day.

I'd cruise out on teh 10th, but my girlfriends work party is happening.

Mine X-mas party is the day before (9th). So no gettin cranked at the party or me having to drive up to big bear the next morning. I have not wheeled Corral Canyon since I got rid of my Taco. Would like to see how the 4Runner compares to it on the same trails.

My Taco was a 99 TRD and had Donahoe coil-overs set at 2.5", AAL 3" rear 285/75/16 BFG MT's and sliders with some exhaust and intake stuff. It did have the e-locker also. Marc and I went out and it was easy. When we went, there was a mud pit that was pretty rutted but still no problem. The only trail I would maybe have trouble on is Bronco Peak. It is tough but I still think I could do it with the Runner. Some trails are really tight (side winder and gun slinger) and you should expect to get some brush scratches on them. I think I saw that you have a new paint job? I had some scratchs on the Taco that I thought would never come out. Before I sold it I had it detailed at Carrera's Detailing behind the Ford Dealer on Mile of Cars BLVD and that guy got every single one out. He wet sanded the entire truck and repainted the skids and frame also for only $125. I got asking price for the truck $15,000 for a 99. It did have low miles but it just looked new after the detailing.

Me pulling Marc out of the mud pit.

All pretty before she went away

I definitely want to do something.

If we go to the mountains, we can hug mikey. I have a big warm beard.

Truckhaven would be fun...never been there. What about Coyote Canyon, never been there either.

Seth,

I'm tryng to get out the 17th too, not sure where yet, Anza is on the list. Need to get some driveshaft work done first though.

I've done both Coyote Canyon trails and truckhaven. Trying to find something that the Kids will like as well. Lower Coyote is good for driving up in the afternoon camping and coming back the next day.

Do you have your truck back? Truckhaven is great for testing out new mods as there are so many trails you can pick how hard you want to push it. No tight brush and little chance of body damage.

Well, I went to Ocotillo on saturday night/sunday morning. I'm not super cared of brush. I think I already gave myself some good pinstripes.

I'm open to all of these spots. Something closer is always good since gas is pricey and Christmas tiem is also here to take my spare money. I'm in North County, so Coyote Canyon sounds cool. seems like I could just shoot out the 76.

I think Coyote Canyon is fun if you are planning a weekend in Anza. It only takes about 2 hrs to do the whole thing. I was just there a couple weeks ago with the TTORA group.

Maybe we should hit up Inkopah or Valley of the Moon off the 8 fwy?

Depending on where you will be, I may join you.

Me too. I feel responsible for the deicsion since I first posted, but I'm really up to any of those choices.

My only thing is that I need to be back relatively early on saturday. So distance is an issue.

Hey Marc- What are those trails off of the 8 like? Would going to one of those get you out there?

I will probably go where ever you decide, I was just saying that Coyote Canyon by itself is short.

Boy do I wish Los Coyotes was still open....

Would Corral Canyon be enough of a day? It seems close, so that would fit the bill.

I already got some good pinstripes this weekend, so if that is all that I have to fear, then, I think I'll be allright.

Who's in?

Sounds like we might get:

Me
Marc
Eric
Beer Drinker

Maybe:
Mikey
Rob G

Well, my girlfriend just changed the plans I was working around. Now our event is on friday. So going out friday and staying over is out for me. But I can still do a day run, but now I don't have to be back at 4:00 I pretty much have the whole day.

Coyote is out, sounds like fun, but too short for the drive.

Truckhaven woudl be fun, but that's a bit of a drive too, and it seems like that would be better for a weekend.

So I'm definitely leaning towards Corral Canyon. Where is this located? I assume off the 8. Lookin forward to it.

My rig is back at Protrux momentarily due to a strange vibration when touching or releasing the throttle above 60mph. I think my pinion gear in my diff backed off again...damnit. But I'll have it for the following weekend. no worries.

That is the same problem I am having, Put on 1.5" coil spacers in the back and it started. 60 at first but getting worse, now it happens at 40. Here is a thread on a similar problem https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...ght=driveshaft

Spoke to Jess at High Angle and he said I need a CV shaft but I need to fix my rear pinion angle first so it will be a while. He said OK to drive as long as you make sure all the bolts stay tight. Very interested in what protrux says. I had a comple te3rd swap since the problem started so I a pretty sure it is not the third. Did you recently raise the back?

Still a maybe but corral canyon would be my choice as well. That is the one with the sqeeze right? OK to bring a friend in a jeep (heavily modified Rubicon) and a couple of kids ?

Corral Canyon is 8 east to Buckman Springs road. Exit. Turn right, drive about 5-7 till you see the sign for Corral Canyon / Camp Morena.

There also is a 15 mile road to Corral Canyon at the south exit @ Pine Valley.
