Guys,

The website has been updated. Registration has been officially closed. We're looking at around 40 vehicles---that's a lot of folks to manage and we never expected so many to make this trip this year.

Thanks,
Bob

Or there abouts,, Just one of the large open camping areas off to the west of the sand highway in the lil valleys, there are several places we could set up camp for the group. Complete w/ bathrooms and picnic table. We should be able to fit a large number of people there.

Lightbulb RTI Ramp & Sand Drags

All-
Things we can do in the evenings to socialize, have a good time, and test our trucks.

1. RTI Ramp. We can build one out of the sand w/ a shovel and some spare tires. Such as the ones in the following link. We can give awards for catagory.
a. Toyota IFS
b. Toyota Solid Axle if there are any
c. Other Makes
d. Overall - Winners of classes a & b & c

2. We can have sand drags, paper awards, and bragging rights for anybody that acutally thinks thier truck is fast and can come close to me in the sand. I know a great hill next to comp hill I call Truck Hill. It's long and straight up a 20° incline.
Classes:
a. N/A stock
b. Supercharged
c. Overall & Other - Winners of classes a & b

Sorry fellas, but I might not be able to make it now.

I hate flakes and even worse being one - but depending on how things work out this week I may not be there. Family issues so it's a very high priority.

Hopefully, I'll make it there

Exclamation Camping Reservations!

All-
A friend told me this morning that they filled up overnight camping passes at pismo last weekend and that we may each need reservations. Even if pismo was filled, we could camp elsewhere and get daypasses, but that would suck.

"CAMPING AND FACILITIES
Camping is allowed south of Post 2 on the beach and in the open dune area. Vault toilets and chemical toilets are provided, but water must be brought in and trash must be packed out. Campsite reservation information can be obtained by calling 1-800-444-7275. Campsites are available by reservation year-round and can be made from 10 days to six months in advance. Reservations are highly recommended, especially for holiday periods. "

I called the reservations number and was told that reservations need to be made at least 10 days in advance. What that means is we are "subject to availability".

The guy on the phone could not even look to see how many reservations have been made.

Hopefully we will not have a problem, but we should quickly develop a contingency plan in case we get screwed.

Chris what could you suggest for alternate camping spots?

ok, we could all be funked this weekend. called reserve america, and you cannot make reservations within 10 days of your arrival, so reservations aren't gonna happen. i tried for oceano dunes svra, so let me know if i'm at the wrong park

The lady said we (the organizers) couldn't make reservations for an entire group, but she also said that they thought reservations would not be needed at that time.

This is not something that will cause any events to be cancelled. At worst, like Chris said, part or all of the group would have to camp elsewhere.

We will come up with an alt. plan and make sure everyone knows about it!

ok tom, thats right.

ok guys, i'm gonna put my panties back on. this place is HUGE. if this were the 4th of july weekend, we should be really concerned, but its not.

my recommendation to all is to arrive early as possible, even friday night.

i want to apologize too to everyone for not having the foresight to check this out.

Yes that goes for me as well. We took it as Gospel when someone on the other end of a phone said "Aww, you won't need reservations in the middle of August." We should have thought to check things out again as the date got closer.

Despite what you guys feel you should have done in retrospect - it is easy to go ahead and take someone's word for it when they have some sort of position of authority.
I appreciate the fact that you guys are being mature adults and taking responsibility (whether or not it's necessary) - very refreshing in a near anonymous online community

Anyhow, I've got good news and bad news.

Good news is I can make it!

Bad news...
well heck, there ain't no bad news! I can make it out to Pismo!!!

My little family issue up and resolved itself *whew*
Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Guys,

This is our contingency plan. We may have more ideas, but this is a workable solution which I discussed with Robinhood15000 (Steve) about a 1/2 hr ago.

In case some of the later vehicles (and guests) may not be able to stay overnight, earlier arriving attendees should overstate how many guests are in their party. That way we can still have everyone camp on the beach, and then shuttle those folks who weren't allowed to camp w/ their vehicles overnight. Confusing but read on...

For example, I'm arriving early on Friday at 3pm. I have 3 (visible) guests in my vehicle. When I check in, I'll say I have 5 guests total. If they ask where the other two are, I'll say that they're in town doing some shopping. So in effect, I've allowed for 2 more campers.

So let's say Mertztr and Sarah arrive on Saturday afternoon because he was recovering from a long night of drinking on Friday night. He arrives at Pismo and the ranger says "sorry pal, no more overnight passes are available." Well, Tom can get a day pass, have fun during the day and at night, he can find a safe, overnight parking lot. Then we can shuttle him in because I have 5 guests in my party.

Get it?

So thus, this is what we need to know:

Who is coming on Saturday and planning to camp? Please respond asap.

Thank you,
Bob Kim
