Alright, whoever is going to pismo so far we need to bring some fire wood so we can have a huge one, lol. Anyway, Morphias and I will be bringing up quite a bit ourselves, a bed full for him and about a half a bed for me. And one question, where is everyone going to meet up up there?

anyone know approximatly how much it would cost to convert 2wd to 4wd I got a 2000 limited... or is it cheaper to sell and buy 4wd...?

 

That's kind of a heavier topic for a trip thread.
You could do a couple of things - search and find the few threads where it has been discussed before, PM member Nitro Hotpants and talk to him about the pros and cons, or start a new thread and get newer opinions on it.

Most people will tell you to sell and buy though...

Sorry dude, but I gotta say, thats totally not true. After going out there many times (I live 30 minutes away) and rolled a truck, I've learned alot more and seen things I couldnt believe

2wd will be fine out there even with skinny tires the critical part of the equation is how heavy the truck is, another important factor would be driver skill and experience (air down + momentum). Power would help alot too.

I would actually say its funner in 2wd (but having 4wd will give you peace in mind)


But if its your first time out on the dunes I would tag along or just take sand highway. But dont be afraid of getting stuck, its all part of the fun!

 

the "fix" should be done by then. if not, i'll just pimp the dunes in 2WD.

 

I believe Charles, Casey, and Milton just volunteered to lead and pull out the 2wds .

Milton, is right. The man knows how to roll a truck with style. I saw him roll his truck right in front of me, got out dusted himself off, inspected his rig and got right back into the truck and continued wheelin. So trust what he says is right.

on a lighter note im planning on going, and i was wondering about where were gonna set camp...right on the beach somewhere or at a camp site close by?

 

Hey Milton, I'll be there for sure and I still plan on kicking some butt, although things will be a little bit different... It does seem like it has been forever. Hopefully we won't be wrenching too much, knock on wood.

Sorry to hear about your roll but at least you found a replacement 4runner.

As for the whole 2wd issue, they can do well and I agree with what you said. But they are different and it isn't as easy. Stuck happens to everyone. I'd say make sure you have good recovery points regardless of what you have. As for momentum and low pressure: speed is rougher on the truck and I always worried about blowing beads especially since I'd seem to lose all psi at random. It's all about how you are will to treat the truck but they can do some surprising things.
