Kevin's BIG adventrue.

ok guys, here is the deal: every year I go on a backpacking trip with my dad and a few of his friends. This year we're going to be hitting up the tetons! this summer i want to do something for me. something kinda cool, that i've never done before. i've never really been on a real vacation or trip. never been to hawaii or anything like that. only to michigan for a family reunion when i was in 6th grade. so......

so i thought to myself. "i should take a cool roadtrip!!!" since im going to be in wyoming already i figure once we do our backpacking thing, maybe i should just break off from my dad and his friends and head down to Utah! I would just like some help from you guys on planning a kick ass camping/road trip!!! so anywhere you guys would say is a must, i would like to know. also i would love to meet up with some of you maybe for some wheeling!!! the thing im most interested in, are just long easy trails. I saw a post about white rim down near moab and thought that place was really cool. great veiws and i could make it a 2 day thing. i'll probably have about a week, more if i want for this trip, not including the backpacking in WY

granted this all depends on gas prices!!!!

thanks guys!!!
KEVIN

edit: oh and i forgot to add dates.....
backpacking probably sept 6th - 11th or 12th, not confirmed yet. and i start school sept 27th, so i could camp for a week and still have about a week to get ready for school.

Hey Kevin,

I lived in Utah for ~4 years while in grad school. Its an awesome place to live. The Tetons are incredibly cool, and Yellowstone is just up the road. If I were you, I'd go spend some time in Yellowstone if you never have. From where you'll be, getting to all the cool spots in southern Utah will be about an 8-10 hour drive. Figure 3-5 hours from Yellowstone to get to Salt Lake, then another 4-5 hours to get to Moab. There are a ton of cool spots. However, I would seriously reconsider doing any trail riding unless you've got another vehicle with you. During the summer, it gets seriously, deadly god-awful hot, and breaking down by yourself on a desert trail is a recipe for disaster. If you're just planning to cruise through the National Parks, which kick ass, then no worries, alot of people around. Arches is sweet, Canyonlands, Bryce, etc. I've got a kickin' book on Utah if your serious about cruising down there. However, Yellowstone would be my choice since you'll be so close.

I would recommend picking another time to be in that area.

It will be hot, like almost Arizona the devil is sweating hot.

Sept. things will be cooling down a little, maybe only 105 instead of 110. I've mountain biked in Moab in July when its hit 115 on the trail, but remember, its dry heat, so it doesn't feel as hot....

Dry heat my eye! I drank 2 gallons of just water a day while wheeling. That does not count the other gallon before and after we hit the trails or the Gatorade.

September will be cooler for sure.

The parks are great there, I would try to hit all of them and hold of a little on the wheeling, especially if alone.

well thats one of the biggest reasons i wanna get some people from down there to show me around, because we all know wheeling alone isn't the best idea, especially when you don't really know the area.
