so im looking, with out much success, for places to go within an hours drive of the inland empire basically from pomona in the west to banning in the east, basically speaking, the I10.

i dont want to drive more than an hour to the location, as it would most likely just be a half day trip, something to do while im not in class.

nothing to serious, just trails, maybe with small water crossings, etc.

all of those that grew up in the area, where did you guys learn and what are your favorite spots? its sad that everything is at least 2 hours from me, at least that i can find in the way of OHV areas and such.

 

* cleghorn off the 15 is a mild/medium trail.
* big bear area

 

anyone have experience with the trails in cleveland national forest in the corona area?

specifically looking for something i could do in half a day, something to have fun with with my friends.

even dirt roads near pomona. im so bored here... need to get out more...

so western san bernardino mountains, eastern san gabriel mountains, hours radius from cal poly pomona.

 

Like Lance said, Cleghorn is about a 20 minute drive from me in Ontario - it has it's own exit of the 15 right before the 138. It's a dirt road, but all the bypasses are really fun. There's tons of fire roads up in the mountains, too, just drive up there and start looking. Most have gates, but if you look hard enough you can find ones that are not gated.

 

All those places are alot of fun, and if you are into romp'n around in the mud, Azusa canyon on the weekends is always fun to. I sure miss those places since I moved to Utah.

 

I live in Corona and the Cleveland is right in my "backyard" mostly fire roads with a few spurs, but hours and hours of exploring to be done. Cleghorn off the 15 is another good starting point. Miles and miles of fire roads and spurs to explore and run. There are lots of places within an hours drive of you, just pick a dirt road at the base of the hills there and go!

well ill try out cleghorn maybe in a couple of weeks once the lift is done and im not working...

 

Im not sure if its still possible but Lytle Creek was a easy trail at one time but that was 20yrs ago, Ive not been on it since.
Off the 15 just N. of the 10, go west on LytleCreek/Sierra I think and it turn dirt about 2-3 mi up and then it should go all the way over the mountain to the 15 between cajon pass and glenhellen.

Shooting range too but I think you need pay to get up there now.

 

I live in Redlands and have found a nice little trail close to home. Take the 38 (Lugonia Ave) east through Mentone. Once you pass the Forest Service Station/Green Spot Road travel another mile up until you see the fire road on your left (I don't have my map with the trail numbers, but I'll edit later). After another mile or so on the fire road you can hike up to Morton Peak or travel a little further and take the trail down to the backside of the Seven Oaks Dam. These are fairly easy trails but there are a few places going down to the dam that require your attention. If you stay on the main fire road, you end up in Angelas Oaks. Here are the two trail numbers: off Hwy 38 look for "1S13" and later "1N13" to Angelas Oaks.

 

There is also Wildomar OHV area off of Ortega Hwy. Its a pretty mild area with lots of Manzanita bushes. But, it close. There is some decent little areas to play on and plenty of easy trails. Been a few years since I was out there, so I have no idea how it is now. Any stocker can do it though.

 

I'm just tagging this post so I can come back later on. Unfortunately I'm not to familiar with any trails around here but it's good to see some fellow IE'rs on here. We may have to have a meet and greet BBQ one day!

 

I'm in Murrieta, not to far from you. A while back I did a trail called Santiago Peak. I did it in a stock Samurai with my family of four crammed in. It's mostly dirt roads but there are some side spurs that are a little more challenging. PM me if you want more info.

 

i was thinking of hitting up some trails on the sunday of thanks giving weekend (nov 26th, my birthday is on monday) any interest from you guys? ill post about it more when i know more about where i want to go (was thinking cleghorn or something, or maybe clevland nat. forest.) would be kinda cool to have some people run with me.

 

where in redlands do you live? i think i might have seen you around?

I live near Mariposa Elementary. My neighbors love me. The Runner is starting to resemble one of the rigs from Mad Max.

I'm still not 100% sure where we are going the day after Thanksgiving, but tentitively it looks like the Hammers. :bounce2: I might try to make it to the Sunday B-Day run to Cleghorn as well.

 

Any places safe for a 2wd not to get stuck mudding around here in the IE ? I want to get the whole truck in mud with out getting in places where I won't be able to come out ?

 

yup cleghorn is fun,,,takes you to about 6000 feet up..nice views,,,and hen pops you out at silverwood lake...pretty awesome ...

 

I live in yucaipa just up the way a few minuites and i would be down to go out and do some trails whenever you guys want
