a good CO trail to take a mostly noob to?
something near west denver/I70 is a big plus. i've got a mostly stock tundra, 4" suspension lift and 33s, and skid plates, but no rocker protection or gears, and i'm open. i've done some of the easier trails in the area, coney flats and whatnot, and some stuff up higher in the mountains...the guy who's looking for some trail time should be able to follow anywhere i can stuff a tundra.
i'd like to check out some of the more interesting trails. whadday'all figure for the outcome of bill moore lake or wheeler lake? sliders required or no? body damage possible, likely, or avoidable? i was looking at jenny creek as well. if those are all likely to break something (not cool just before a long trip), i figured coney on friday since it's pretty chill.
tia,

I ran Jenny Creek this weekend. It is a pretty easy trail. You shouldn't get any body damage. I ran it with a couple of Jeeps that had open diffs. They both got stuck once mostly because the creek was high and the rocks get slick. I wouldn't reccomend running it during the day, there are tons of people. We ran it at 9:30 and there was nobody on the trail.

how 'bout any given time on a friday? jenny looked good since the side trip to kingston is short, and kingston is easy but the view is
. i figure a friday shouldnt be too crowded, yes/no?
r0cky youre more'n welcome to come with if you have time friday (as is anyone else who feels like it), also we're planning on running the mccallister/resolution loop on saturday of the next weekend out (that'd be the 31st)...again, easy, but the view is hard to beat.
we're headed to moab for the week in between, i just want to do something in CO i havent done before, hence the ~6 rated trails
. i did the 4s when i wuz bone stock and learning to drive

I heard that the big rock in the first creek crossing of Jenny Creek (by the washed out bridge) was gone. This was the single most difficult obstacle on the entire trail and the only cause for needing sliders. If it's truly gone, your truck should manage just fine. The only possible issue I can see with that trail would be the very narrow passage through the trees at the begining. While a full-size truck will fit through, there may be a bit of paint scratching if that's a worry.

trails
Not sure if their open yet - but I've always liked the network of trails up near montezuma (Keystone) - Such as... Radical Hill, Webster Pass, St. Johns, Deer Creek, Middle Fork of the Swan, Georgia Pass, etc. They all sort of run into each other up there. Not Extremely difficult, but areas of some challenge plus great views.

I'd say Wheeler Lake would be a lot of fun for you. I ran it a couple weeks ago with Toy283 (Dave) and Aurora Sandman (Mike). It's the hardest trail I've run yet. I've got a limited slip in the rear but I'm not sure I ever needed it (although I did take the easy line on all the obstacles.
) I think body damage is possible AND avoidable.
I'm thinking about checking out Mosquito Pass, which is a 4, the weekend of the 31st. I've already done McCallister once this year or I would join you.

...well, in the end, we wound up skipping a CO trail...it looked wet in the mountains on the way in, and we were short on time on the way out.
We used Elephant Hill as our proving ground, and gave our token n00b a trial by fire

. The rental Heep did ok, but the "larger tires" rubbed bad on the radius arms, the stock Heep put a fist-sized dent in the bumper, the Pinz did great (but the rocks chewed the hell out of the tires)...
And the two Tundras came away unscathed
.

One of the other Tundra guys from CO did run Kingston Peak the second Saturday when we originally had planned to run a CO trail, said it was easy and beautiful.
Got plenty pics, just haven't posted anything yet, I guess that oughtta be a different thread anyway...
