ok, tired of the occasional, just-off-the-paved-road nothing 4x4 trails i have been playing on. i hope that people know of and post here trails they know of, or have been on along the central coast in california. bulldog mentioned the hollister hills (and i would have come to that one had it stayed there!). c'mon all, give a starving trail brotha some LOVE!

i'm a socal kid, but i know of some trails up there.

1) carnegie svra. livermore, ca. mostly trails for dirkbikes, but some 4x4 trails.

2) Frank Raines-Deer Creek OHV Park. near patterson, ca.

3) hollister hills svra. that's probably the closest one to you.

4) clear creek managment area. 30 miles north of coalinga.

if you're willing to drive south a couple hours or so, there's oceano dunes SVRA. and if you're willing to drive north about 3-4 hours, there's a bunch of trails at cow mountain, near ukiah. there are trials in the sierra nevadas to the east of you, but i don't know much details on that other than one place called slickrock. just do a google search for more info on any of these areas.

Have you looked into santa cruz mountains? I was just up there this weekend camping (17 and summit) and I saw some great fire roads that lead to I dunno where. Might be something to look into using your local maps

 

im out this way too... there are tons of places... oceano dunes is pismo if you didnt know, they renamed it..... all the above places are good..... hollister is sweet!
too bad i wont be going until i at least have a rear locker..maybe gears too--not sure... i can still spin the tires... but jumping from 235/60/14s to 31s is a huge jump in size!

I'll be doing some trails (probably a weekend) over the next few months. I'll post here to see if anybody wants to join.

The point of me posting here is that people can let me know if they are interested in joining, so I have an idea of whats going on. I didn't know you wanted to come to Hollister, otherwise we could have kept it there. Can't read your mind

Clear Creek was good, but it is some ways to drive, especially from Santa Cruz. I want to go back there again and spend some more time. At least I think I have got it mapped out a little better now.

Last time we planned ahead a couple of weeks and quite a big gang joined in. It was pretty good fun, the guys with more capible rigs did more difficult stuff, but we kept in under control for the most part for normal trucks. The mud quickly caught up with my stock Dunlops and I slid all over the place, almost off the road into a steep downhill.

 

lance- you were up here and did not stop in to say hey?!?! why i oughtta.... if you are ever up here i would certainly like to extend some hospitality your way.

bulldog- yeah, i blew it. i should have said something. but i will definitely be looking for the next run. thanx for the pointer to that website. did not run across that one in my googles.

 

just keep looking as I will post before I go. You can always organize a run yourself. when are you going to lift your runner?

 

about ready to pull the trigger. i have been putting together (in my head) exactly what i want. i will put the rev-tek in front w/billy's spacer mod (considering going larger than 3/4"), and the downey coilovers in the rear w/a rev-tek spacer. at this point i am pretty sure of it, but after i put the lift in i will see if the a-arm is hitting the coil and pick up the inlandtruck upper a-arm. i talked to them today tring to convince them they need to put together the same package for the 4runner that they have for the tacoma w/the SAW coilover. he sort of chuckled and said ok, sure....

 

WHERE?!?!?! I can't wait to move to santa cruz in 2 weeks and I'd love to have some dirt to test out mods on.

nor cal has lake pillsbury, cow mountain(lakeport or red mountain), stonyford, indian valley, and bear creek and you can get from one place to the next on trails if you know how. i think you could ride from pills. to indian valley to stonyford and then to bear creek idk for sure.

I'm camping there in a few months and am trying to plan ahead.
