Fall Colors Ride-GWNF, VA Oct 20-22
The Toyota Fall Colors Ride will be held at George Washington National Forest just west of Harrisonburg, VA on October 20-22. The trails are very stock & mild lift friendly. I will be arriving Friday morning (Oct 20) to set up camp and relax. We will be running trails all day Saturday (09:30 - 17:00) and half day Sunday (09:30 - 12:30).
We will be joined be the FJ Cruiser Trail Team at this event, so I'm sure we can go for a test drive if we wanted.
The National Forest is located about 20 minutes west of Harrisonburg, VA on Route 33. The campsite will be at the meadow by Skidmore Lake off Rt 33. This is a "primitive" campsite. There will be no porta potties or potable water, so make sure you pack accordingly.
Follow Route 33 west out of Harrisonburg. You will start going up the mountain and hit all the "switchbacks". Going up the switchbacks there will be a left turn (It is the ONLY left turn with a turning lane). From the intersection of I-81 and Rt 33, it is approximately 21.3 miles to the turn. Take that left and follow the gravel road down the mountain approximately 2.3 miles. At the bottom of the mountain there will be a concrete bridge. Turn left immediately after the bridge and you will enter a small meadow. To the right you will see a trail that leads to a large meadow where we will be camping.
Sorry about the vague directions. I will be making a scouting trip out there next month and I'll post better directions with mileage.
Intersection of I-81/Rt. 33 West to the Shell station is 2.6 miles
Shell station to left turn onto gravel road is 18.7 miles
follow gravel road for 2.3 miles to meadow.
I will be going into town and meeting people Friday afternoon at 17:00 at the Shell station.
I will also be going back into town to meet people at the Shell station Saturday morning. I will be there 07:45-08:15. We have to leave the Shell station no later than 08:15 to give people time to set up camp before the groups head out.
This is not going to be a "hardcore" wheeling trip, as there are no hardcore trails at GWNF. The Fall Colors Ride is more of a casual "meet and greet" and scenic trailride. All 4wd Toyota's are welcome. So come join the fun, see old buddies and meet all the guys you've been "web wheeling" with.

First post updated with more detailed directions.
I'm gonna be pretty busy until the run, so I might not be able to check yotatech before the run.

Map
Here is a map to the fall colors ride.
www.gamron.com/~tacoma/GWNFMAP.pdf
There are three waypoint of interest for camping.
TURN 38 34.734 N 79 8.214 W
MEDOW 38 33.46 N 79 9.118 W
RD-T 38 30.717 N 79 10.517W
TURN is were you turn off rt-33
MEDOW is the main camping spot, know as the Meadow.
RD-T is intersection at the top of the ridge.
If we have a large turn out, the meadow may get crowed. There is more camping along the road past the meadow. If you would like to camp on top of the ridge to find some solitude away from the noise of the base camp, head up the road to RD-T. If you turn left you will find a big clearing on the left about a mile or two from the intersection. If you turn right, you will find flag pole knob. Flag Pole knob can be hard to find in the dark for people who have never been to the top of the ridge.
