Steve, it's too bad you didn't do Iron Chest, but I'm glad you still got to do Holy Cross City and Old Chinaman's. It's the same reason I chose to do Taylor Pass so I got to wheel with other folks on a new trail.
I'm glad you learned that crawler gears aren't always the solution. Sometimes you NEED momentum.

Steve Hunt spanked everyone by attempting the far left line on Whale rock on Chinaman's. I never would have tried that line with my 4Runner, although I've spotted friends up it with an exo.

It's sounds like Steve and everyone got a good taste of Colorado's more difficult trails. It sounds like Chinamans was a completely different trail that what we ran last year. Even the optional obstacle I requested Steve do was more difficult.
Steve,
Thanks for giving it the old college try. But, it doesn't sound like you spanked it if you had to be strapped off backwards.
Moab sounds like a great idea. Lower Helldorado and Hell's gate will need to be the new requirement.

"Go left I think".
I backed up had Mike Caskey spot me and I did spank it. You want to see something funny, watch the whale rock video, I'm hanging out the window, cranking the stereo, no spotter and singing, not even watching where its climbing, the line in the middle.
Try that one.

Hmmmm...
First off, I would have to save up a few buckaroos...
Actually, I would probably find all the parts myself, and then have Mike from ORS put in the kit.
Dana 44 high pinion
ARB locker
SAW coilovers
CTS U-joints
locating links upper and lower
cross-over steering
the list seems to go on and on. It will probably be another year or so. However, when I do finally get to it, I'll have to sell all my ORS parts, including the ARB front locker....
so, somebody should make out pretty good on the parts. I think the D44 will handle the weight much better than the half shafts that come stock on the 4Runner. Seems those front half shafts were pretty much pulling close to 4000lbs up that waterfall.

The dork running the auction does not know how to spell, so not many people will find it.

After this trip.........................................
1. I'm making a center belly skid plate, that was too close for comfort with the crawler.
2. 315/75/16's are next. I'll cut the fenders or crank the front up to 2.5". I have the gears for 35's and that's were I'm going.
IFS RULES !!!
But then again, all I have to do is use the other key and bye bye IFS.

I made a skid plate for my transfer case, and it has worked quite well. I have slid over many an obstacle with this skid plate, with no flinching or complaining.

Hey Everybody!
Just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone for yet another excellent CO4RJ!!!
I had a great time hanging out with all of you and enjoyed seeing lots of new faces also!
I can't wait to check out the pics and video of the other runs we didn't go on. At least the camp fire banter kept me updated on the daily events.
I am so excited for Moab I can't stand it! I don't know if I can wait a whole year. hee hee Thanks again to all of you out-of-staters for making it out this year. It adds such a nice mix to the group. I am still tickled by all of Adrian's "humdingers". You're the "cat's pajamas" !!
Don't worry- I will post the recipe for the smore treats too!
You guys ROCK!

There is no reason to wait till August to do Moab. Moab in summer = HOT!!
October might be good. May or June are also good options. The reason we chose August for CO4RJs is that many of those trails are only open in August. They are blocked by snow banks the rest of the year.
You can't have a CO4RJ outside of Colorado's borders. Call it MOAB4RJ or UT4RJ.
I don't believe a Moab event should replace the '04 CO4RJ under any circumstances. It may help keep the CO4RJ from getting overcrowded and that would be awesome.

I'm sure for the "hard core" Toyota guys - this event is on the boring side as far as trails go - but for the 70% of us that still enjoy moderate trails, mountain vista's, and laughing around the camp fire this event is great!!!
Maybe I'll have to make up some "Keep CO4RJ Alive" stickers and shirts.
Anyway - I had a great time this year!!! I'll get my pics and vids up soon...
Mojo
