those that are arriving saturday should arrive at the camp site no later than 9am. We'd like to start the adventure soon after.

When does the campground open up on Friday for us? Trying to figure out when I would have to leave.

Good! Plenty of time to leave in the morning and get lost then find my way to camp!

I suppose I should still buy an adventure pass in case during the weekend there are too many people in camp if I'm out and about.

Do we have a semi-final headcount on people camping yet? Seems like a few people have bowed out or can now only make it for a day.

I suppose firewood will be needed? No picking up dead stuff around camp to use?

Boy the next ten days are going to be loooong. I can't wait to get the hell out of here for a couple days!

Found this basic Big Bear map. Thought I'd share for those who have no reference material, like me!

Camp will be very easy to find. Don't worry about getting lost. I've camped in this area several times already, and have had fun everytime.

Everyone: Please remember to bring water. There is no piped water at the campground. The area does get hot in the afternoon.

Also, do bring your bathing suits. Big Bear Lake is still there, but the water is shallow. We can go for a dip.

I am pretty excited. Cannot wait to try on the new shoes!!!

I *may* have to bow out of this one guys....sorry
Just found out that my truck needs new tie rods soon and to top it off, I may have some frame damage. (not sure yet, awaiting official word from mechanic.)
Not to mention my EZ locker hasn't arrived yet, and with my luck it'll be the wrong part again.
This is all gonna cost me alot more than what I've got, so I think my chance of making this trip is at about 50% right now. I gotta wait and get word from the mechanic, so I'll post again when I know for sure.

I am unsure if I will make my first Yotatech run. I'm hoping I can come up on Sat. morning and camp Sat. night. The problem is that TTORA Socal is there two weeks later and I may not be able to get two hall passes.

How many trucks are looking at medium type wheeling? I've got sliders, locker, and 31 at's.

New to wheelin'

Hey group, I see this trip is fairly local for me and I was wondering if this would be a good place/trip to learn more about my 04 runner (stock) and 4 wheeling in general. From reading the posts it looks like the easy runs are basically pretty easy.
If I can make it, I assume I need a forest pass and maybe a CB? What do you use to communicate? Will the group mind a newbie on the easy runs? Is there a post for times for the runs? I found the post for the campground and I'm guessing that's where you would start from. Please fill in what I might need to know.

Thanks,
Lookin'

Do join us. Lance will lead us on easy-medium trails. You can always opt out if your not comfortable, too. There are alot to do in big bear. If you don't offroad, you'll still have plenty other things to do.

I'm no veteran either and there are plenty of trails it looks like to play on. Some of the moderate ones listed in Lance's post seem to have bypasses. You'll be suprised at what your rig can do and hande.

Sounds like fun. I'm way overdue for an outing like this. I'm up for the easy to moderate trails and the campsite if there's any room left. No sliders or locker yet. I plan on getting the Adventure Pass just in case.

Only problem is my son has a math placement test on Monday morning at 9:00am, and I'm 7 hours/450mi from Big Bear. I think we can hack it though. Gonna be a rough/late drive home on Sunday. Anyone else from the Bay Area going?

Dave,
i've never wheeled at BigBear myself but from what i hear its generally a good place for stock vehicles. There will be runs for everybody. Just be at the campground at 9am. We use cb or frs radios, but i'm sure one of use has a spare frs radio laying around.

Everyone is welcomed on this event! It looks like we will definitely have 2 different groups (one harder and one easier) so all the rookies can join the easier trails .

Big Bear has a variety of trails to offer so there is no need to worry about whether you'll make it or it. If you plan to join us, please make sure to bring proper survival gear (i.e. tent/food/water... etc etc) and also a FRS radio minimum. CB radio's are not required but are highly recommended.

I haven't decided whether or not to lead the easier trails but I will decide once I get there.

Recap on camping location: (easy to find)

Campground Name: Gray's Peak Group Camp
Friday Aug 6 to Sunday Aug 8
Max vehicles allowed on camp site = 8
Max occupants allowed = 40
This campsite has:
> Bbq Grills (1)
> Fire Rings (3)
> Pit Toilet (1)
> Table (3 Tables)

Getting there:
Take I-10 east (State Hwy 330) to Running Springs, CA. Take State Hwy 18 to Big Bear Lake Dam. Do not cross Dam. Go straight on SH-38 to Fawnskin and left on Rim of the World Drive (3N14) for 1.2 miles to 2N13. Follow 2N13 for a short distance to the campground.

Fees:
Group Camp fee: $130.00
Rsvp fee: $9.00
total: $139.00 (damn doesn't this hurt...)
Depending on how many actually show up our group camp fees will change. More the better
