Beginner Run AZ?

Hey all,

My family is all coming at the beginning of June, first weekend. Here is a list of who will be here, and their rigs.

Me
My Dad: 2001 Tacoma TRD, 2" Pro-Comp lift
Uncle CA: 2002 Tacoma, 2" Pro-Comp lift (no e-locker)
Uncle CO: 2000 Tacoma TRD, no lift
Brother: 2000 XJ, 3.5" RE lift, 32x11.50x15

My Uncle from CO has never been wheeling before, and is concerned about his truck. He just got it, it only has 44K miles on it, and he obviously doesn't want it dented or anything. What trails would anyone in Arizona recommend for a 1 day outting for this group, that would be fun, and would not really endanger my Uncle from CO, but let him get a taste of what this is all about.

I'm not too terribly familiar with a lot of runs, I tend to just wander about sometimes, so there aren't any real "trails".

Thanks!

The new river trail is a pretty fun and stock friendly trail. Let me see if i can find pics of when I went a few months ago.

I am down to attend if your looking for 'Come Alongs'

I would recommend something local. Perhaps taking them out to Sycamore would be local nice easy run. This area alos has 'Rocker Panel Pass' which I don't suggest if you don't have sliders. Even Broken Arrow is a challenge. Now a days you have to get a day permit to run that trail. Then you have to consider all the mountain bikers and Pink Jeeps. There is Needle Rock (Verde River) for some riverbed and water play. That is out NE of Fountain Hills. Plenty of optional challenges there as well as washes (11 Mile Wash) to do.

Let me know and I am down if it's a Sunday!

John

I'll definitely keep you posted. I don't know if it will be strictly a family thing, or if others would be invited. I don't have a problem with it, but my family may. I also don't want to overwhelm them, and I don't know if it's on a Sunday yet either, we may go on Saturday.

We're an odd mix of people. My dad and uncle in CO are very conservative with their trucks, don't want to hurt them. Myself, my brother, and my uncle from CA are not as conservative. My uncle from CA is crazy, he's a gas first ask questions later type person. He actually rolled his Taco, stationary. He managed to get it stuck, and then kept gunning it until he dug holes in the drivers side ground, and it rolled onto the drivers side door.

Well, either way hope the info you requested was met. I can totally understand if it's a family only thing! If they don't mind others going, tell your Uncle not to worry I have plenty of chain so if he decides to roll over again we can right him!

Just remember that Broken Arrow requires Permits to run now. I am not sure the Agency to contact for them.

I offroaded my completely stock 01 4runner which was truly a lowrider to:
Coke ovens, Martinez cabins, Crown king, Sunflower, over 4 peaks etc
And a bunch of other dirt road type trails.
Try any one of them!

Keep me in mind for a "Come Along" as well.

Montana Mountain Trail isn't too bad, out between Florence Junction and Superior.

Mazatzal Wilderness Trail linked with the East Verde River Trail isn't bad. Starts in Payson and pits you out near Pine or vice versa.

Senator Highway is good, too.

I've heard that the Box Canyon of the Hassayampa is pretty fun. Lots of sand.

I never have gotten a day pass for Broken Arrow? I was there a month ago and had no problems with the Pink Jeep guys. New River was fun, ran that with Blink. I would love "come along" if I'm not working. I am always down with taking the Jeep out.

Perhaps I was mis-informed. I thought they were trying to cut down on the traffic through there - I could have sworn there was a plan to begin charging to run BA. Oh well, if not cool! I hope that there isn't fees in palce because I would hate to face the fines vs. the fees.

Also, I know they used to charge to get into Castle Rock (AKA Needle Rock) at the Verde River. Then they took the pay stations out and only charge if you PARK there. Well, I think parking is over rated and prefer to wheel! LOL

I know you need a RedRock pass to park in the parking lot. I usually try to go during the week to cut down on traffic there. But I have gone on weekends and it hasn't been to bad. I love it on that trail, I would hate to have to pay though.
