You go up senator highway till it forks, one way goes to Crown King, the other to Union Mountain. If you go up the union mountain way it'll either take you to Big Bug Mesa or farther out to highway 69 again. I was bored tonight so I just got back from doing the union mtn. to hwy 69 trail, pretty fun little trail (not very hard), lots of rocks, it was kind of fun at night. Just thought I'd ask, I'm bored, lol.

Yup-
That's a scenic route in day light- you can see off to the south and east to Mayer and Phx. You used to be able to drive up to the Fire Tower at the top of Mt. Union. It's the highest point in the County- now they make ya walk in the mile to get there
The Mt. Union Road, when heading east, comes to an end at what we call "5 points". The hard left onto the main road takes you back to Walker and Hwy 69, the second left takes you to Poland Junct. and Hwy 69, the main road straight ahead takes you out to a dead end on Big Bug Mesa, and the right turn takes you to the Old Dandrea Ranch and out to the Senator Hyw east of Palace Station. You'd enjoy the Old Dandrea road, it's a bit rougher than the Union road. It also has a fork to the west (just past the only gate on the road) that will intersect ot the Senator Hwy.
Another fun trail close to where you turn to the Mt. Union road is the Golden Eagle Mine road- it's about a half mile south on the Senator Hyw from the Mt. Union road. Take the right turn, stay on the main road, and after a few tight turns and 1500' of climb, you'll be parked on top on Mt. Trittle- make sure you turn right on the ridge road at the top of the hill- the left turn ends (for your rig anyway
) at Halford Hill, one of the nastiest streches of road in the Prescott Nat. Forest. I've been up and down it many times, but it takes at least a rear hard locker and sliders to get up. Check out BajaTaco's Pic's of Maverick Ridge

The road to the top of Mt Trittle is cool, I've camped up there before. I assume we went right, we were considering left, lol sounds like it's a good thing we didnt go (my 4runner and a stock jeep cherokee). It's a nice area out there around Union mountain.
I'm not sure if it's the same mine you mentioned, but I've driven out a rather narrow road off the one to Crown king that took me to a mine, it still had some of the rails from the ore cars or whatever.

I'll have to check out the Old Dandrea road sometime. Do the pics of the Maverick Ridge trip show any of the trail you say I wouldn't be able to get down? Anyway, we should get some people together and go wheelin soemtime

yup, Halford hill is shown on #13,#14, #15. The hill is covered in 5 to 6" dia loose rock about 10" deep in spots, and is very steep. Right at the top is the ledge the guy's are shown climbing over/around.
I'll be leading a run on the DeSoto Mine trail next month- we can get ya thru if you don't mind a few minor dents If a stock heep can get thru w/ a pull or two, I'm sure you can too-

I'll see about going on the DeSoto mine trail with you guys, I might have to work, and I dunno if I need the extra dents *needs to save up for some sliders*

(just remembered, my avatar is a pic take on the Union Mtn. road,

Hey d00d! I just saw this post - sounds like you have been doing some fun exploring!
Actually, that's the kicker about driving onto a really rough looking trail in steep mountains like the Bradshaws... some of them are impossible to turn around on, so once you commit, you can't quit. I was thinking that on the way up the Maverick Mtn trail - there was no place to turn around, and even if you could, I would hate to think of going DOWN some of the stuff we climbed up.
That's where Crawler#976 comes in... hehehe
remember when I told you on the CB at the ice cave run... he has been around these mountains a LOOOONG time.. (hahaha - just ribbin' ya Mark) and he is the d00d to talk to when you wanna know about an area or a trail.

OK, OK!
For 31 years I've lived in Prescott, (I was 12 when we moved up here) and been on trails and F.S. roads w/ my Dad, freinds, and wife. Lot's of time spent wood cutting, hunting, exploring, camping, hiking within a 75 mile radii of Prescott.
Of those 31 years, I've been driving/riding on trails and F.S. roads for over 26 years . I've had a dirt bike, 2 Three Wheelers, 2 quads, a '66 4x4 Locked F/R Waggy (it was a freakin' tank), a '69 4x4 Scout, a '84 Datsun 2x4 truck, a '70 GMC 4x4 (still got it), and the best of the bunch, the '87 Toy.
The best part about it, is there are still places I've never been! I've still got a lot of exploring left to do-----
