Would you buy this? 86 Custom Cab

Hey guys,

I was driving past this guys house near me and saw in his back yard that he had a custom cab pickup sitting in his backyard!

I left a note in the mailbox asking if he'd sell and to give me a call.

The next day he called and asked if I wanted to come over and check it out. Of course I said yes.

Here's what I found out about it;

-It's a 1986
-The bed is DESTROYED, it's like swiss cheese
-It's a turbo
-5 speed
-4x4
-It will start with ether but won't stay running because (of what he thinks is a bad fuel pump).
-The interior is in good shape
-Most of the frame is in good shape aside from the crossmember.
-It was owned previously by Mario Andretti!!!
-It has 211,000 on it

Anyway, I don't have any pics (i know i know) but he is asking $1800 and I don't really need another truck but I feel as if this is too good of a deal to pass up.

Any other opinions??

-Brian

I'm seriously considering it for the "cool factor" and the "rare factor".

I would offer a grand and work your way up.

Here was one approach:

Back seat:

I test drove a New custom cab when I bought my 86 4runner..yep am an old fart. The turning radius was huge..came really close to getting the truck instead of the 4runner

Well that's one way of doing it...lol not my forte personally.

I've heard of the turning radius' being huge on these. Is the bed the same bed as a single cab?

Bed length: same as a single cab.
I have seen both long bed and short bed 1st gen Custom cabs.

ADD-a guy on pirate has three of these:

Some people will wheel them:

I think one of these with a supercharged 3.4 would be an awesome truck.

Hmm very interesting thanks for the info Dropzone.

I agree with a s/c 3.4 being awesome but I wouldn't want to do that to a turbo truck, the turbo factor is just way too cool!

id love to have one. the price seems fair but maybe alittle high with the work it needs and the miles but if you can get some sort of certified documentation that i was owned by mario andretti, get it!

Yeah the price seems a bit high, but the guy knows what he has and will not go lower. Heh he also has an 88' MR2 in showroom condition.

It would be neat to have some documentation I think I might go for it and get this truck. I just need to find where to get a bed lol.

Can never have too many toys! Do you have a shop or something to work on all these projects you have? Always wondered.
