oh jeez... how long until you turn around and sell this one?

i'd say get it, fix it up, then decide if you want to keep it around or sell it. or, throw that turbo'd engine in your 4yeller

doesn't sound like he truly wants to sell it if you just chanced upon seeing it stored away in his yard for "later" - that's probably why he threw you the high price and won't budge (he's not ready). if it were me, i'd leave him all my contact info and tell him i'd be interested should he decide to get rid of it in the next year or two. make sure to explain that you're not going to molest the truck and rip it all apart and that you just want to restore it to its former glory and get it back on the road - this will probably help YOU and give you priority when he's ready to give it up.

in the meantime....Mario Andretti isn't gonna want some slow-ass 22ret in that big 'ole truck, so start looking for a Toyota V8 to slap in that engine bay and give it a SAS while you're at it. THEN you'll have the ultimate Toyota pickup/recovery vehicle in your fleet.

I totally dig these old custom cabs, but would never take one and make it into a crawler (save that for one of the normal models that are already trashed) - just a trail runner/expedition rig is where i'd go with it. My fav's are the ones that keep the beds full length and make everything else bigger to compensate: tires, lift, armor, engine, etc.

I HATE flatebeds aside from Toyospearo's if I get this truck and can't find a decent bed I may have to contact him and see if I can't make a flatbed.

I'd really like to restore it and use it as a DD. Think it'd be an awesome DD.

Hahah that post made me laugh. I thought about leaving him my contact info and playing the waiting game but he knows about the truck he knows how rare they are and he will not come down in price.

Although I told him about my '86 4Runner he said he'd seen it around and admired it.

I'm definitely going to keep the 22RET. I think it's a sweet engine.

I'm leaning towards picking this thing up.

Picking it up in a week or so, the guy went in for some minor surgery today so he won't really be up and around for a bit.

Yeah the P.O. went in for surgery on Thursday and he called me yesterday. He doesn't sound so great. He said the truck is mine and as soon as he is feeling better we will get everything all squared away.
