Selling '88 4Runner DLX

It's time to part with my '88 4Runner. I'm the original owner, no rust and paint is in great shape, 192K total miles with reman engine at 140K. 5 spd manual, towing and chrome package. Just replace PS pump and alternator and passed emissions. Curious what folks think I could get for it. A few minor things to fix on it like the intermittent wiper relay. Also let me know if anyone is interested.

It all depends on your location and the condition. Post some pictures! I have an '89 DLX with the chrome 5spd 22RE with 147k in VGC. I'm not really planning to sell.

Pictures

Below are pics of the Truck. One update, I am leaking a little bit of PS fluid since the pump change out and have not been able to trace it down yet. I did forget to retighten one PS hose which definitely helped.

Looks like it is in great shape and you being in AZ has kept rust away.

I think you would be amazed at the prices that 4Runners in your condition are going for these days. The bring a trailer auctions are crazy, but good time to be a seller.

Thinking of asking $9K to start. BTW, Interior is in excellent shape, no torn seats and minimal if any visible wear. I kept the truck covered or garaged for most of it's life and used seat covers in the front. I looked at Hagerty for pricing https://www.hagerty.com/apps/valuationtools/search and their estimate starts at $12,600 for a vehicle with a few issues.

That's a great price. You should post a for sale ad on here with a few more pics. Should have no problem selling that thing quickly.

for people to try to give you a better ballpark figure post more pictures on the drivetrain (engine and underside) and a ton of pictures of the all of the interior. Ads on ebay may have 50 pictures.
This listing has 38 pics:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/25533925091...EAAOSwh25h5wnQ
Door jambs, hood etc.
check out this site on instagram to see what some 1st gen 4runner asking prices are.
https://www.instagram.com/yotatrader/
based on the 3 exterior pics you posted i think you can get more than 9K but again dunno if it looks like crap on the inside.

What is the green thing hanging under the right front? is that a rag to catch the P/S leak?

And if you choose to post it on YT in the classifieds be sure to have all the required info posted.
Good luck

edit: another place to gauge prices is on bring a trailer

this one is up there pretty high

Looks pretty awesome, a P/S leak will mean nothing for this thing, I really don’t think you should do anything just disclose, they are going for stupid money, do your research and make some money!!!!

Thanks everyone. I was trying to list on the bring a trailer website but they rejected my reserve which makes me nervous so I just listed in this forum and have some friends interested too. Any other listing site suggestions would be appreciated. To answer a few questions:
- yes the green rag is to catch the PS drip (good eyes, I probably should have removed it for the picture)
- The hagerty website which prices collector vehicles priced it at 12,600 so with tires and the list of odd things I haven't fixed, I figured $9K was a fair if not slightly low price.

It's the first vehicle I ever bought (33 years ago, yikes!) so will be interesting to see it go and hope it goes to someone who can have some fun exploring hard to reach places.

Well darn. I'm short the required 15 posts to list my truck for sale. I've put it out on autotrader classic cars website if anyone is interested.

You can also try cars and bids, seems a little less silly than BAT.

Nice truck and realy good ballfield price. BAT thought your reserve was too high? Did they reject the truck outright? I don't understand as there have been several modified 4Runners on there lately.

BAT initially agreed to list it without a reserve. I pushed back but by the time they responded I had listed it on autotrader classic. Just sold it, so that worked out.

Agreed to 9K and buyer pays all shipping costs. I was eyeballing about $12K per Hagerty's website but the truck needs tires and a few nuisance items fixed which I fully disclosed. Yeah I probably could have gotten more but really need the garage space for home projects. I'll miss driving it but won't miss working on it, as that ship has sailed.

If anyone has ideas on steps to complete an interstate transaction please let me know. Buyer is willing to put down a deposit (how much?!?) and I assume balance on receipt of Title and pickup by the shipping company.

Looks clean! I think $9K makes sense. I hope you get it. BTW, power steering leak is not that difficult to diagnose and fix, and parts are relatively inexpensive.
