Is this a good deal 1976 FJ40

I'm thinking of buying this fj40 it runs and has 167,000 miles on the I6
No doors or hard top it has a new bikini top. It's got bad dust on the fenders does not look to hard to fix. And he said the tubs got some rust spots
New battery and starter. Seems like a good deal to me.

I basically just want another project and this fj40 looks like a good canedite
Thanks

I'd buy it, those are getting hard to come by with the original motor.

The price is in the link but I'll post it here it's 950 but then he said 900
The I6 that comes stock does it have a chevy transmition or did Toyota make there own tranny. And if it has a chevy what other motors will bolt up to it.
Thanks for the input.

i'm kinda intrigued, i just found one of these setting on the side of a hill today, it has the doors and top still on it though. Any info you find on these things would be greatly appreciated.

Not to rain on your parade but no top and doors and located in Alaska its probably rusted really really bad. The diamond plate patch on the back of the body is a spot to check real good. But $950 is cheap. TLC 4x4 in Van Nuys Ca are the experts to know on cruisers.

Pics of the undercarriage?

All of the rust so far appears to be superficial - the fender having been eaten through has me worried for what might be underneath, though.

He did not send me any pics of underneath. He said the frame was pretty good he thought but it has a few sPots I don't know what he considers pretty good. That's what I'm mostly worried about. The fenders look Like you could fab some up maybe out of aluminum. Seats are trashed looks like there's a spot of rust eating through the corner of the tub behind the pass seat.

The fenders should be easy. Hell, you could probably get some Bushwackers that would fit on there and forget sheet metal.

Buy it, tear it down, sand/wire brush it all, paint it flat black or OD green, clean up the undercarriage with some POR15 and a wire brush and you should be good to go as far as that is concerned.
