First 4x4. What is the general fair price range? '81 20R

So I've owned a few older 20Rs, none 4wd or newer than a 77. I need a small pickup with 4wd and I love toyotas so it seems like a no brainer. I am going to look at one tomorrow, but his price seems a little high. Maybe not. Here's what I know: runs great, power steering, 31 10.5 15 tires - rears are bad, wheel bearings need packing and one half of the body is different than the other - presumably the front has been replaced given the condition and the salvaged title. $2k is his asking price. I think it is a bit steep, but I know the old 4wds are sought after.

Your thoughts? Mine is no more than 1500

Thanks.

Paid $2400 for a stock '87 4runner with 219000mi 2 years ago. Brakes and tires are good but I ended up having to rebuild the engine.

I paid $1400 for mine when I picked it up

But I travelled about 3 hours away with a buddy to go get it..
It was pretty much an instant DD with some cheap quick maintenance..
Good deals are all over.. Just be patient & you will find the right truck!!
I see you are in Oregon.. Whereabouts? Maybe I can help with your search?

I decided to buy it. The whole thing felt really good. The seller seemed honest and the truck was solid. It does need tires and I'll repack the wheel bearings, but is sea worthy. The engine is clean and the wiring looks very well done. Turns out the guy built the truck out of other trucks. He builds rock crawlers and things and just wanted a stock 4wd truck for the home stead. So he built it. I offered 1350 and a 30/30 lever and the deal was done. I will do my transaction next weekend and hopefully have new tires waiting. Btw, I would like smaller tires. Currently 31 10.5 15 are on now. What is the smallest that would fit those wheels?

Thanks.

So the gearing is either 4.10 or 4.38. Would a slightly smaller tire be okay with that gearing? Again, I've no experience with 4x4s or gearing for that matter. What I wanted in this truck was a solid pick up that can be a commuter, mover, explorer and basic. It is on 31s right now, but I would like something just a little smaller. Better gas mileage and less stress on the engine.

Remember though, it has a salvaged title and needs tires. Any tire recommendations? Mostly in paved driving with some firewood hauls from the forest is what they will be used for. No crazy 4x4ing.
