Loud pipes lose rights = reality

Loud and obnoxious sounding exhaust systems can be hazardous to ongoing trail usage.

I live in a rural area of California. There are lots of places to go 4wheeling. Some of the places I go are starting to have issues with the neighbors. The noisy dirt bikes and the loud 4wheelers are causing the locals to close off areas that used to be open. They are also calling out the LEOs to enforce newly enacted noise ordinances in the areas that are still open. These areas are inside city limits. The city has started to regulate days and hours of operation, even on private land. The noise pollution issue is what drove the new laws.

For those that are considering aftermarket exhausts, think about the noise issues when making your decision.

I like to explore and check out interesting side trails. Sometimes these explorations lead me onto private land without my knowlege. I run a stock exhaust and I don't blast my stereo with the windows open. I haven't run into "Rancher McNasty" yet and I hope not to.

I got behind a 3rd gen the other day that had a really loud exhaust. I wish they would ban those like they ban loud music.

I don't like loud exhausts, especially on my own vehicles. When my exhaust fell of the 4Runner, I didn't take it wheeling again because of how loud it was.

Near where I live, there are a couple of trails that are closed to the public because of loud noise. If you know the guy whos property is the opening to the trails, you are allowed to go on them, and I have a couple of times. Again, it is all a respect issue. You wouldn't want a loud vehicle going by your house when you are trying to do something that requires quiet, would you?

I personally love my loud exhaust. I really love it when I am sitting at a light in traffic next to some punk kid blasting a $5000.00 stereo. I just rev it up to 6k and drown them out, not to mention they get a car full of my exhaust.
That said, I do not rev my engine unnecessarily. It's as quiet as an old V-8 can be.

I can absolutely see your point. It can add to issues that cause trail closures!

Usually most loud exhausts sound like butt. There are some exceptions but most 4cyl and V6's just sound like little man syndrom with loud exh systems.

I have an exhaust on my truck...and its not too loud, I think the bigger piping and muffler gives it a deeper sound. Not obnoxious. But I am heard
