Why is the FJ so cheap
#21
Not loaded? Mine is! It has better then leather or cloth seats for the fact that they breath and are water resistant and confertable. It has the back up sonars, the auto windows, the auto lights, tire sensers, etc... Plus it came with the inclometer, e-locker, a-trak, and 265 tires on 16" wheels. I couldn't ask for more out of this thing. All you get with a Rav-4 is a vehicle to tote groceries in. I think they basically just fair priced the FJ for the first year. I wouldn't be surprised to see the price raise for future years.

Oh yeah,FJs do have the goods but they are for a purpose and aimed a the more adventuresome types while the RAV4 is built for the street commuter and now that I actually got some seat time in an FJ (I've driven a couple of RAV4s) I think both are great vehicles but if I was never leaving the pavement the RAV4 is a much more comfortable grocery getter and long trip vehicle by far and the power is a nice plus when climbing some mountain passes.
I just don't think you can really compare the FJ to a RAV4 since they are just so different but that doesn't make the RAV4 something useless especially with almost 270hp in a light vehicle.
Plus power and heated seats are kinda nice and to be honest the rear seats in the FJ would leave alot to be desired for adults on trip of a few hours or more.
The RAV4 does have the nicer amenities hence the price. LED tails, solar energy absorbing glass, auto up/down windows with jam protection, dual zone AC with filtration, much better storage cubbies, remote gas door hatch, roll sesning 2nd row curtain airbags and available 17 or 18" wheels,DVD player and just a lot more options available if you're willing to pay the price and that's really why the price descrapancy.
I'm glad the FJ isn't meant to appeal to the soccer mom crowd but there still we be the dips who'll slap 22" wheels on 'em.

Already seen it happen, except I think they're like 24-26s. It's a black FJ that someone on staff or faculty here at TN tech drives.

one of the toyota delaerships out here in spokane , took a black fj and blinged it out with every aluminmum option availble at the time , unfortunatly its all 3m sticky tape stuff and it looked bad. they didnt go too far wit hthe wheels and tires though. i just see these things getting into the wrong hands and becoming a huge joke, whch is sad becasue these are extrmeely capabile vehicles.
as far as the rav4 goes, im sure its a great vehicle for its intended user. arent all toyota desgined that way.
i hope toyota keeps going the same way they did with these fjc price wise, look at how well scion did with there pricing approach, i mean who would have ever bought an xb if the price was way out there. LOL
