I am sure the Rav 4 may have leather, carpet, and lots of other stuff (fluff) not needed in a spartan off road vehicle.

The FJ is geared towards off roaders who do not need a lotta bells and whistles that add up to $$$.

Not to say the FJ is not comfortable, just the opposite.
It is the most comfortable rig I have ever owned.
The seats I could sit in all day long if I had to.

First, The word Cheap is used improperly. Less expensive would be a better word. I don't think Toyota truely knew how the response would be to this retro looking vehicle. Personally, I think they could have asked more added a couple bells and whistles and sold just as many if not more. If H3 can start at 37,000 then this with a few modifications could easily sell for the same amount. Don't look a gift horse in the month.

Toyota priced the FJ specifically to convince Corey to buy one. Period.

He he he...
I have been asked by some who do not know Toyota, and they are surprised to hear what I paid for mine.

They thought they went for $50K or so.

Like others said, it is more spartan. One example, the headlights. They do not come on automaticly nor shut off if left on and the truck is turned off.

The drivers window switch alows you to roll the window down or push it hard and it will go down automaticly. A normal switch costs half that of the one in the FJ. Now take all those little things and add them up and you save thousands. Toyota builds for less so they can sell for less.

You as a buyer get less options to pick from which keeps some from buying the FJ and instead go for say..........the 4Runner. They get auto heat, leather seats, SUNROOF (Toyota this would be great in the FJ Hint) but also a $38-40k price tag.

With the FJ you get a function, purpose build vehicle that is very capable off-road and has very nice road manners. Maybe not all the bells and whitles that some want but then again just what some one else wants. Toyota found a niche market that is now including people outside its targeted area.

My headlights do.
I never turn them off if I am going to be driving in the dark.
If you leave them on, 30 seconds after exiting the rig, they turn off.

When you get back in the rig and fire it up, the headlights come on since the stalk is in the on position.

This is part of the CQ package I beleive.

Cheap? I would have liked to see them come in a little lower on price, but I guess everything worth owning is approaching 30k these days. The whole business model for the FJ was an "affordable" vehicle for young people that were too masculine for a Rav4 (99% of males and 50% of females). I'd hate for them to try an compete with the H3... that's what the 4Runner/Landcruiser are for. I wish GM would come out with a stripped H3 with all the offroad goodies for $25 or so.

But, hey, my dream vehicle is a remade 85 4Runner with a V8, 4:1 t-case, and lockers front and rear

Sadly it's also geared towards yuppies who want a "cool" looking vehicle. Refer to the new beetle for that one... The amount of these vehicles I see on a daily basis with bling rims, low pros, and some fake looking woman behind the wheel reinforces that theory in my head. That's not to say there aren't any seriously nice ones out there... (look in your driveway )

I was going to add the pt cruiser on that list, but there was no way in hell i could even put the two in the same sentance

FJ cheaper than the RAV4? Where is this at. All FJ's down here are over 30K while the Rav's are 28K and less.

Toyota knows what they are doing...

The new 07 Tundra is designed specifically to take market share from Ford's F150.

The FJ is designed to grab market share from Jeep Wrangler.

If you want an FJ, buy one now. The prices will climb steadily with market share gains against Jeep.

I have to say that you are wrong in that statement, we are DINKS.

Besides the fact if you go to other forums besides this one you will see most people actually do wheel them.

Who cares who they are geared towards, they look good, work great and are priced relatively good.

They already went up $200 in December, we got stung by that one.

I wasn't trying to be wrong or right, its just what I'v seen in Tulsa (south Tulsa if you want me to be specific). I could care less why people buy them and what they do with them. I was just agreeing with da_bigg_wigg's statement.

I spent last Christmas Hollydays with my wife?s family in Argentina.
The second day I saw a brand new pearl black FjCruiser exposed in a grey market seller.
Asked for price, and sit down...
90,000 U$D.-
Not kidding !!!
I asked how could the car be so expensive , and the seller without moving any muscle of his face, said: "If you want an exclusive car like that, you have to pay for it..."
But the saddest thing is " few days after, the car was sold...!!!"
Motherf*****, robber, ...!!!
I think I found the the expensivest FjCruiser in the world, do you agree.
;-)
