1987 toyota landcruiser. Is it work it?

Hey all. If this is the wrong section please tell me where to post it cause Im not sure at this point. Im looking a a pretty nice toyota land cruiser on craigslist. I went and looked at it this morning. Looks pretty good. No major oil leaks. Heater blows hot. A/c blows cold. Pretty stock. All original toyota glass except the windshield. Interior is a 4-5/10. He's asking 2500. My question is how expensive are the parts for these things, and what are the major things that go out on these 2f engines and 4 speed manuals. Looks pretty nice and has little surface rust in wheel wells. Exhaust leaks don't seem to major. All in all looks alright.

So.. Will it be worth it and not be a money pit, or are these parts alot more than pickup parts and will end up costing more than its worth?

If you can help or this is the wrong section please let me know and thank you all!

It may be worth it depending on how you work it (playing off your title).
Only you can determine it's worth, IMO.

Well I don't mind working on toyotas.(posted from my phone so by the time I realized couldn't edit the title lol)

And I guess my real question goes out to the cruiser gurus and is how much more expensive are major parts than helix's parts?
And are they as bulletproof as toyota pickups are?

Its a toyota, it's either a passion or just a car, for most of us on here it's a passion and a way of life, with owning any old truck theres pro's and con's, land cruisers are always worth the money and investment, if you like the cruiser then it always worth the work, rust is usually the main problem, just look over the rig really good and if it seem worth your time an money get it!

At that price, go for it. The 2f motor is a tractor engine that does not use a timing chain or belt...it has timing gears!!! They go forever if maintained properly.

Best bet is to start here...

http://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wa...ack-often.html

Mud is going to be the best place to search for this stuff. The only issue with the 60 series is the rust. If it's relatively rust free, then your good.

Well I took her for a spin today and man, SHE FEELS LIKE A TANK!! I love it. Everything seems to work good. 4wd works great. The engine is really torquey and works well with the 4 speed. Feels like a great truck and I think gonna try and buy it tonight. I'll let you know if I do.. (:

A friend of mine had one of those and nearly identical to yours. Those are a tank on wheels and his was almost bullet proof. As far as cost of working on them, I couldnt say, but as a general rule on anything, it depends on how much you can do yourself and being patient and checking all classifieds, if you are patient, the parts will come at a good price.

Time spent learning all you can about FJ will pay off in time and money when those repairs do come along. They have a hard core fan base as well and those guys will be able to show tricks and tips that you just wont find in a repair manual. Follow some of there builds and get involved even if it is just in threads/builds. Great looking truck.

Im trying to figure out If I can swap my 31" Toyos from my pickup on with no upgrades to suspension. If I can then Im gonna get Les schaubs to do it for my within the week.

Anyway thanks for all the positive feedback everyone and I'll upload some pics tonight.

Hey guys. Sorry I suck about posting pictures but something always comes up when I think of it.
Anyway I swapped my tires from my truck onto the cruiser and it looks sick. Also took her wheeling for the first time a little yesterday and OMG it handles better than any of my trucks I've had. Its a real crawler and just creeps over stuff with alot of touque. Its great. I did get some pictures on my girlfriends camera, and when I get the chance-hopefully tonight- I will post the before and after of my tires and a few pics from the trip.
