t100 2 wd conversion to 4wd
Hi everybody1
I have a dilemma about my truck which is a 95 t100 sr5 2 wheel drive.
I would like to find out how compatible is any 4 wheel drive toyota truck to mine for doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion?
I know it takes some money and lots of time to do this but i need to send this truck/preferably with 4 wheel drive/ to europe and there are some restrictions on taking it there so that is why i am considering this.
Any input would be helpful on making a decision.
thanks

Yer best bet is to find a 4x4 T-100 and just buy it. Sell yer 2WD T-100 to someone else. The 2WD frame is different from the 4WD frame. If you were doing a SAS...it might be feasible if you had the time and a donor vehicle but you'd still need a lot of different parts.
Another option would be to git a locker like an ARB so you can select it on demand.
Do you have an auto or manual transmission?

I have to agree with Bam. I would sell the 2WD, buy a decent 4WD (they are there, and some are really nice), and use the (big) chunk of change you would have spent on the 4WD conversion and use it to both purchase and fix (if needed) anything on the 4x4. Good luck!

The whole idea is not to buy another vehicle because i have to own it for so long otherwise i have to pay a lot in penalties when taking it to europe. So i need to look into this conversion to figure out which way is the least expensive.
thanks for the input

The only way to convert your truck to 4wd would be to do a solid axle swap, along with swapping in a 4wd tranny and t-case. It would be a full custom job, as you would have to do the axle/drive train swap and set up steering and such. You would probably have to go with a fullsize axle like 1/2 ton chevy or wagoneer (not sure about diff drop on the t-100) up front.
It would definitely be a project, but i think it would be doable. Search around the web for SAS on T-100's to start with, to give you an idea. Swapping the tranny and t-case would be the easy part, its the axle swap and steering that will take some serious work.

There was a write up on this in the 4wd magazine that one of the chain 4wd parts stores put out. They comparted price for the conversion to 4wd versus price of buying a 4wd. Seems it was cheaper to convert.
I haven't researched this but is a awesome idea. Seems you'll need a driveside drop axle so Ford or Dodge, in the article they used an adaptor from AA to mate to a STAK t-case (bare with me its been over a year since I read it) So every thing after the Tranny was domestic so no bastard drive lines. Of course you could put in a 4wd toyota tranny and t-case, don't know if there is crawl boxes for the T100, would be sweet.
No I would not do this prior to transporting vehicle to Germany. Gas is expensive and you could have lots of legal/inspection problems. Keep it stock till you return. Or leave it and get a beater when you get there. Joe's are always selling they're stuff before they PCS from German. Assuming you are PCSing there yourself.

I double checked and it turns out the t-100 actually was passenger drop, so a chevy axle is the way to go...
